History in the making

The difference is that now the GOP realizes following an insane moron has cost them the House, the Whitehouse, and the Senate.

But it got them 3 SC appointments. And prevented a second Clinton presidency. And set progress back at least four years. And changed the terms of the debate. Only some of the damage can be easily undone and the culture wars are not even close to being decided in the nearly evenly divided congress. The GOP just barely lost, in two short years they stand a very good chance of taking back both chambers. They still have the left wing of the opposition to rail against and to frighten white America with. The deplorables will not abandon them. Fox news and all the rabble rousing media will find new champions. Stephan Miller and Steve Bannon will both re-group. The Proud Boys are still disgruntled and the security apparatus is still riddled with their supporters.

Progress comes only in fits and starts and every day is a new chapter in a constant battle.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

Talking with the hubby the other day, I predicted this would be an unprecedented unpresidenting.... but this goes just a bit beyond what I had imagined.

Wonder how many Trumpydump flags will be flying today?

how is this good news?  they did it once and look how much good that did.  besides, they don't have time to do it again.  the only way out is to 25th the idiot.

Impeachment could disqualify him from ever holding office again.

I was very heartbroken to see events at the US Capitol unfold today. Especially as a vet of the US Army, 75-79. Despite my depression about these events, I also believe in the good, and the basic morality of the majority of the American people. Today I saw jerks in red hats and waving flags, under a mass delusion, believe they would change things by trashing our most sacred institutions....things and ideas and places that have been previously defended with the blood of citizens for more than 250 years. GOOD people, not rioters. TRUE patriots, not domestic terrorists filming themselves to boost their standing on social media.

This is a disgrace, and a slap in the face to all of those citizens who have defended democracy and laid down their lives for it throughout our history.

I am in favor of invoking the 25th Amendment NOW, and removing Trump from office once and for all. He will now live with the fact of being the worst President in US history. Hundreds of thousands of deaths due to his lies about Covid, now approaching the number of people we lost in the entire Second World War, and seven times the number of people we lost in the ten years of the Vietnam War. He has incited racism, denigrated women, encouraged sedition.

Enough is enough. We are better than this. We are better than HIM.

Please don't sit back and think the left doesn't hold some responsibility.  Think back to the 2016 election.  If the Dems hadn't believed the MSM saying there was no way Trump could beat Hillary we most likely wouldn't be where we are now.

But when Trump beat Hillary, a mob didn't storm the Capitol, smash windows and plant explosives.

We complained, a lot, but this is something else.

That is the most outrageous attempt at unwarranted rationalization I can recall seeing here. It's just the same as saying she was asking to be raped because of the clothes she was wearing. The electorate is not at fault. Trump is at fault for his behavior and his supporters are at fault for theirs.

YOU don't get off the hook that easily.  YOU are one of the enablers.

Be ashamed.

Fatally wrong in every way.

Yes. It completely represents the thinking of populism, trumpism.

Not trying to rationalize.  There is a bit of truth to it though.

This kind of truth.

"Trump empathized with those who had violently stormed the Capitol, saying, "I know your pain, I know your hurt," before adding, "We love you."

In a subsequent tweet, the president called the pro-Trump mob "great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long."

In early September, Trump called a group of protesters "thugs" after a video went viral showing demonstrators clashing with diners eating outdoors at a Pittsburgh restaurant.

"B.L.M. Protesters horribly harass elderly Pittsburgh diners, scaring them with loud taunts while taking their food right off their plate," Trump tweeted. "These Anarchists, not protesters, are Biden voters, but he has no control and nothing to say. Disgraceful. Never seen anything like it. Thugs."

Earlier this year, Trump appeared to threaten violence against protesters (whom Trump, again, called "THUGS") in Minneapolis following the death of Geroge Floyd, tweeting, "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" and denouncing the destruction of property as "domestic acts of terror."

Maybe they are in fact developing spines.

Too fucking late.

You don't get a pat on the back for sportingly conceding the game after it's been over for 6 weeks and your side lost. All of the stuff like this, and the staffers resigning, and Republicans making speeches decrying Trump is nothing more than shameless political maneuvering to be able to point back and say 'See? I didn't support him! Now reelect me!'

Utter cowards.

Black Lives Matter protests - with vandalism and looting

"When the looting starts, the shooting starts!" - Donald J. Trump.

Armed Insurrectionists storming the Capitol trying to overturn a legitimate election:

"We love you. You're very special [...] I know how you feel." - Donald J Trump

he is already impeached, so there.  however, he is still allowed to run for office.  again, what good would another impeachment do, especially when they don't have time to finish, nor the votes in the senate to convict?

The point is that now that the insanity is out in the open, a conviction on the impeachment could happen. It would only take 17 GOP senators to vote for conviction.

You have got to be shitting me. This is this and you personally own this. We are where we are because of Trump voters. I keep asking you and you keep skating on the answers:  1. What was in it for you that caused you to vote for Trump? 2. Are you now wishing you hadn't?

If Republicans hadn't selected Trump as their candidate in the primaries. If Americans didn't equate golden toilets with intelligence. If, if if....

If that is what you want to call it. It is the same rationalization people use when the Qcumber that got shot and killed in the Capitol is now being called an Antifa plant.

It is a way for people to not have to self-reflect and shirk any and all responsibility. It is like the man who tells the officer if only his wife hadn't talked back to him.

No, what now has truth in it is that I've met 9-year-olds with a bigger sense of responsibility than you do.

Own your mistakes. They have consequences. 4 people are now dead.
