2020 climate fails

Americans aren’t buying cars, they are buying SUVs and big pickup trucks.  That is why Tesla didn’t show up on the list of the top 25 selling VEHICLES.  As far as market cap goes, Tesla stock is much more popular than their cars.

Considering republicans are constantly telling people that the stock market determines how the economy is doing, you would have to believe Tesla is doing great.

2020 Tesla model 3 worldwide sales 163,500  (that is almost 3000 more than 2019)

2020 Ford F series 787,422 (just the US)

At least for the foreseeable future Tesla will remain a toy of the upper middle class.

So kind of like when cars came out. Or when televisions came out. Or really when any technological improvement happened.

Quite the impressive insight!

"President-elect Joe Biden will reenter the U.S. into the Paris Climate Agreement, the global pact forged five years ago among nearly 200 nations to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Upon rejoining, the U.S. will likely be expected to provide a climate target that is updated from the Obama administration’s goal and a plan to reduce domestic emissions from the power and energy sector.

75 CEOs last year urged Trump to stay in the accord. Major corporations including Apple, Google, Goldman Sachs and Royal Dutch Shell signed a statement that argued it would strengthen their competitiveness in global markets and allow the U.S. to be a leader in developing technology that curbs carbon emissions.

Globally, the U.S. will have a great deal of work to do to catch up with other nations that have already unveiled bold climate initiatives"

and you expect that to continue?

Like SUV's.  Yep, they're never gonna go anywhere.  Useless overdesigned toys for the upper middle class.  What were they thinking?

Under President Trump, our CO2 emissions are down to what they were back in 1993.  If we keep fracking and replacing coal fired power plants with natural gas that trend will continue.  All the government needs to do is nothing.

That's because under Trump the economy has gone into the worst recession in 90 years.

Next stupid excuse?

9% GDP growth in the fourth quarter, 6.7% unemployment rate (it was 2.2% and 7.7% respectively after Obama’s first term.)  I don’t think you know what a recession is.

"The real unemployment rate (U-6) is a broader definition of unemployment than the official unemployment rate (U-3). In November 2020, U-6 was 12.0%, slightly better than the 12.1% rate in October.1 It's much better than the 22.8% rate in April that was close to the Great Depression's record unemployment rate of 25.6%."

Enough with the facts already!  It FEELS right to him.

Actually the facts and my FEELINGS line up quite nicely.

In the US the NBER determines the beginning and end of recessions. The NBER announced the start of the recession, they have not yet announced the end of the recession.

Are you arguing you know better than the relevant committee at the NBER? Or do you believe they will soon announce the recession is over?

Yeah sure. Because tomorrow is always the same as today, and next year is always the same as this year.

The first modern day SUV is generally considered to be the 1984 Jeep Cherokee XJ. What pickup truck is that SUV based on?

Your grasp of time series in economics is as piss-poor as your grasp of time series in the climate.

Hi Brent,

Re:  'Americans aren’t buying cars, they are buying SUVs and big pickup trucks.'

In your own words, they are two different vehicles.

Hi Jerry,

It looks like was wrong, SUVs and pickup trucks are considered “Light Trucks” here in the US.
