"Federal agents said Thursday they thwarted a plot to violently overthrow the government and kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that included visits to her home in northern Michigan and training with explosive devices.

The alleged plot involved conspirators who met during a Second Amendment rally at the Capitol in Lansing in June and reached out to members of a Michigan militia known as the Wolverine Watchmen for reinforcements, according to state and federal officials."

"The court filing alleges the conspirators twice conducted surveillance at Whitmer's personal vacation home in northern Michigan and discussed kidnapping her to a "secure location" in Wisconsin to stand "trial" for treason prior to the Nov. 3 election.

"Several members talked about murdering 'tyrants' or 'taking' a sitting governor," an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit. "The group decided they needed to increase their numbers and encouraged each other to talk to their neighbors and spread their message."

The article I read this morning also said they were planning to shoot cops and start a civil war.  Wait, what?  I thought the extreme Trump people were all about law and order and Blue Lives Matter.  How does this idea make any sense?

It's the Boogaloo, the plan for a new civil war that will replace the current deep state with patriots who support guns, whites, national pride, patriotism, guns, strong leaders, Christian morality and guns.  There are a few variants; the common thread are guns and civil war.

A few people here have made SAD AND ILL CONCEIVED attempts at it.

Nothing about the trump/GOP coalition seem to have common sense as a core starting point anymore. trump's actions and statements in the last 3-4 days seem to indicate powerful steroids at work on his conscious. No republicans dare voice opposition to his baiting and priming of white supremacists. Or his refusal to commit to a recognition of the finality of a democratic ballot outcome.

Does anyone here even imagine that Donald trump will suddenly do a 180 after the election and refuse to play the cards he has hidden in his pockets? Refuse to deploy his followers who love guns and hate government. Hate those who trump labels as "monsters", "socialists", "communists", etc.

I'm guessing that they expected the 'silent majority' to rise up and support them.

Did they not realize that there's a succession plan?
Did they think that the Capitol building has 'magical powers' and whoever controls is 'in charge'?
Did they not think that the cops would fight back?
Did they think that Trump would tell the FBI to 'step back and stand by'?

Currently 13 people have been charged.
Apparently they started the plot back in August, and the FBI had informants in on it from the start.

There the law lets militia groups run around the legislature armed with AR-15s. It allows better planning if "citizens arrests" need to take place. County Sheriff is an elected position. 
Ya gotta remember that there's as much racism, bigotry & hatred 'up north' as there is anywhere. Rural Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, ect is just as bad as anywhere in the south.
It's just not as apparent because there aren't very many non-whites outside the urban areas.

Fun fact: One of the accused was pardoned last year by the governor of Delaware. He had been convicted of possession of a gun during a felony & receiving stolen property.
