I wasn’t surprised by the president’s behavior (but was disgusted). And though I couldn’t stand to listen continuously (had to keep coming back to it), I was pleased that Chris Wallace at least made a valiant attempt to hold them both accountable to the rules (one needed it more than the other, of course). If this happens in the next debate, I would like to see the moderator just turn off the offender’s microphone and allow the candidate who holds the floor to have their time uninterrupted. So — discuss! I got what I wanted from Biden. He called him a liar, a clown etc.. Certainly it would be a better world if that wasn't a requirement. Trump was an uncontrolled embarrassment to anyone still sensitive to that sort of thing. I have no doubt that each and everyone of his supporters are thrilled. I further have no doubt that none of them have any clue that Trump just openly branded himself as both racist and anti-constitutionalist.

Many of them are racist, and few actually have a high-school understanding of the Constitution -- very few could pass the immigrant citizenship written test.

That's what I was thinking as well... I just deleted a long rant... But suffice it to say, the rest of the world is watching in horror. In 2016, I lacked the imagination to foresee JUST how horrible things would get... In 2020, I'm TERRIFIED of what the future holds. Because like it or not, the result of your elections has far-reaching consequences for all of us. ETA: I wish I knew more about the historical fall of every single "great" Empire and what the world looked like just before and also immediately after... More chaos?? Less?? I'm afraid to research it! Maybe it's like typing your symptoms into Google... Last time I did that the result overwhelmingly suggested I definitely had prostate cancer* (*that's a joke, but not far from the truth!!) gowlerk 1,905 #32 September 30, 2020 I did not watch it. I knew better. I waiting for the morning reviews. The biggest take away I have heard is this: "Stand back and stand by," Nothing more needs to be said.

On a major US news channel prior to the debate a interviewer went to talk to a group of farmers. Without exception they cheered the China tariff battle because trump paid them enormous subsidies. As such he proved he lived up to his "promises". They could have mixed chants of "me" with "trump" and delivered an effective election chant.
wmw999 2,120 #34 September 30, 2020 I didn't watch it either -- my husband gave up about 10 minute in. But my FB feed indicates that most of the Trumpies either though he won handily, or that both were rude and therefore they're still voting for Trump, or that Chris Wallace was rude to interrupt Trump. One person said "just watch the reaction if they turn Trump's mike off." Wendy P.

kallend 1,623 #37 September 30, 2020 I don't recall belligerence and bullying being part of the instructions for debate that I had - but that was a long time ago. I thing the very first question in the next debate should be: "Do you agree to comply by the rules that your campaign agreed to? Yes or no?" And at the first violation, the event ends. Damn... I can see why some people are so anti-socialism... I mean, I am not the first to say it, but who in their right mind would want: - well-maintained roads - access to good education for everyone - access to excellent health care for everyone Yeah... So awful.

Well, some people measure themselves only in relationship to others, so any gain by those others are seen as a loss to them. But what you are is what you are, not how you compare to the Joneses... SkyDekker 1,121 #48 September 30, 2020 Watched the whole thing. Agreed with CNN's summation, it was a shit show. Biden come across as old, just old. Hard to rally behind him I find. Trump is classless, clueless, crass, racist. All the things that we all knew about him already. All the things his supporters love about him. All the things people who say they don't really support him, but sort of do, tolerate because it still serves their purpose. He fully embodied the American caricature. The whole thing was a disgrace an utter total disgrace. Lastly, there is no doubt now that Trump is a racist. He has now made it abundantly clear. hence, as far as I am concerned, any supporter of trump is a racist as well. Not even touching on Trump's attacks on Biden's sons. His supporters aren't racists, too. They're simply unwoke. They must be engaged with courteous, respectful dialogue and given loving hugs. Most importantly, no matter how obviously racist they are, do not call them racists.
