The President of the United States of America in Virginia today:

“We not gonna lose this, except if they cheat,” Trump falsely claimed about the 2020 campaign, where he trails Joe Biden in national and battleground polling.

“That’s the only way we’re gonna lose is if there’s, uh, mischief,” he argued. “And it will have to be on a big scale.”

“And we do want a very friendly transition, but we don’t want to be cheated and be stupid and say, ‘oh, let’s transit — we’ll go and we’ll do a transition’ and we know that there were thousands and thousands of ballots that made the difference through cheating,” he said, repeating the debunked conspiracy theories.

“We’re not going to stand for it,” he vowed. “We’re not going to stand for it.”

If you are not too smart, uninformed and generally disconnected from the world maybe this resonates with you. Otherwise, you are a willing player in the destruction of American Democracy. Your choice.

Hi Joe,

A good friend sent this to me the other day:  'A few scenarios that I had not considered, including having lost the election, Trump shows up at the inauguration with and armed posse.'

I think Trump could easily roundup a rather large, well-armed posse.

The destruction of American democracy began with the trump-Putin election. It advanced when the American people learned of it and did nothing.

America has also lost its friends: "a new 13-nation Pew Research Center survey illustrates, America’s reputation has declined further over the past year among many key allies and partners. In several countries, the share of the public with a favorable view of the U.S. is as low as it has been at any point since the Center began polling on this topic nearly two decades ago.

The publics surveyed also see Trump more negatively than other world leaders. Among the six leaders included on the survey, Angela Merkel receives the highest marks: A median of 76% across the nations polled have confidence in the German chancellor. French President Emmanuel Macron also gets largely favorable reviews. Ratings for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson are roughly split. Ratings for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are overwhelmingly negative, although not as negative as those for Trump."

trump supporters and enablers will say who cares? Well it matters when the US wants to advance a cause in NATO, the UN, the EU and elsewhere. In that respect the US is alone as both Putin and trump want it to be.

Within the US trust in the government has vanished: "Just 20% of U.S. adults say they trust the government in Washington to “do the right thing” just about always or most of the time." For those whose M.O. is everything Washington does is bad and the smallest government is the only one to have. Why would they think other citizens would respect federal democratic institutions?
