This is how you use kids as a political weapon.

There already is.  Education is regulated far less stringently than electrical utilities.  You can choose any school you like, wherever you like.  There are few countrywide standards that schools have to meet - indeed with home schooling there are none.

1st off - This thread was originally about the teachers unions trying to stop the charter schools and competition.  This thread is also about how they are willing to use the kids to meet their ends.

Not everywhere is the system deregulated enough.

No, you cannot choose any school you like anywhere you like.

As I mentioned earlier, in order to go beyond High School, you have to pass certain criteria.

Commonly Used Admissions Requirements

  • Completed College Application
  • Application Fees
  • High School Transcript
  • SAT/ACT Scores
  • If applying at a community college, scores from placement exams such as Compass, THEA and ACCUPLACER.

‘Common’ and ‘mandatory’ are not synonyms.

To go to college you have to apply to college? Ok you’ve convinced me, this heavy handed government oppression is simply too much!

We are talking about primary school here.  You posted the OP about teacher's unions.

Yes, and I'm trying to steer it back there - despite the posters lately deciding that trump has too much real estate in their brains and had to brain fart some of him out.¬¬

By posting about college?

Title of thread This is how you use kids as a political weapon.

"Ms. DeVos,..More than anyone else who has joined the incoming Trump administration, she represents the combination of wealth, free-market ideology and political hardball associated with a better-known family of billionaires: Charles and David Koch....

the DeVoses’ education activism, which favors alternatives to traditional public schools, appears to derive from the same free-market views that inform their suspicion of government. And perhaps more than other right-wing billionaires, the DeVoses couple their seeding of ideological causes with an aggressive brand of political spending."

Betsy DeVos Just Bought Herself a Trump Cabinet Position It cost her $115,000 in personal donations to sitting Republican senators; $950,000 more has flowed in from the DeVos family over the last three-and-a-half decades. And another $8.3 million from the DeVoses has gone to Republican super PACs in the last two election cycles alone. Not cheap! But it got the job done."

Trump’s Billionaire Education Secretary Has Been Trying to Gut Public Schools for Years

I could go on and on but I think the points been made. The billionaire DeVos family and the billionaire Koch family bought her positions to gut public schools. Kill public school unions and fund private ones. Nothing more, nothing less and trump sold her the position.

Children, education has nothing to do with the equation. DeVos has never had a idea on how to improve the schooling in poor geographic areas. Never.

She and trump have weaponized education with her entire tenure as education czar. Not cabinet minister because consultation was never a part of what she did in education initiatives and not one that trump did.

From 2019 Trump administration proposes $7.1 billion funding cut to Education Department.   In fact trump cut education in every budget he proposed.

You chose the topic its too bad the facts don't support an attempt to paint a narrative you like.

Interesting.

So, now we know we have two large threats against the children.

It was YOU who brought up criteria to go beyond high school, so don't whine when someone brings up a relevant one.

There is a difference between a conversation flow and a random insertion of an irrelevant topic.

That's ok. I know how hard it is for you to have agree with me, even the smallest bit.

Sure, and what you did was to insert an irrelevant topic. How colleges work really has nothing to do with how schools work.

I would also note that while you claimed to be trying to get the conversation back on topic, your reply to Phil contained exactly zero words asking anyone to get back on topic. You simply engaged with and continued that irrelevant conversation.

Why do you think anyone should agree with you when you're clearly wrong?

Turtle started his post off with a quote from a Republican independent TV channel.

"KUSI is owned and operated by Channel 51 of San Diego, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of McKinnon Broadcasting. McKinnon Broadcasting is owned by the McKinnon family, which is made up of Dan, Michael, Clinton, and Michael Jr. The McKinnon’s aren’t passive, disengaged owners of the station. Michael McKinnon currently serves as Station Manager.

The McKinnon family, including their spouses, has donated over $150,000 to Republican candidates and committees, over half of which into the pockets of San Diego congressmen and the SDGOP. Here is a breakdown of the most popular recipients of KUSI family money.

  • 24 donations totaling $17,020 to disgraced, pay-for-play Republican former Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham.
  • $18,650 to Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray, who makes regular visits to KUSI when he returns from Washington, DC.
  • $21,000 in contributions to now-retired Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter ($26,000 if you count a $5,000 contribution to Hunter’s “Peace Through Strength” PAC) and an additional $11,450 to his son, current Congressman Duncan D. Hunter. Hunter Sr. was also a frequent guest on KUSI.
  • $8300 has been contributed to the San Diego County Republican Central Committee under the tenure of Tony Krvaric.
  • $52,500 in contributions to the National Republican Congressional Committee."

So the bias in its so called "reporting" should surprise nobody. It has a well established local profile of hosting any republicans that ask for coverage. Where softball questions are the standard.

The station like Turtle, trump, DeVos and the GOP would like to defund public schools. Cut education spending in every budget.

This is coverage of the same story from the LA Times:

Leaders of the Los Angeles teachers union on Friday called for campuses to remain closed and for distance learning to continue when the school year begins Aug. 18. Union leaders have concluded it is not safe to bring children back on campus as COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County surge to new highs.

"The union also released a report suggesting parameters for reopening will be difficult to meet any time in the near future, although they are in line with what some health experts are recommending. In an informal poll released Friday night, 83% of union members who responded agreed that Los Angeles Unified campuses should not physically reopen next month.

The union represents around 32,000 district employees, including teachers, counselors, nurses and librarians. Of those, some 18,000 had responded to the poll as of Friday night."

No mention of these lies in Turtles version. In fact multiple searches of these "demands" come back solely to Turtles source KUSI TV:

"Their demands include implementing a moratorium on private schools, defunding the police, increasing taxes on the wealthy, implementing Medicare for all, and passing the HEROES Act, which allocated and additional $116 billion in federal education funding to the states.

The unions demands also took aim at charter schools.

The United Teachers Los Angeles union says these policies must be implemented on both the state and national level before reopening schools.

Opponents, mainly Republicans, believe these demands prove that San Diego Unified and Los Angeles Unified School District’s decision to conduct classes online is a political one, not driven by the data."

No need - the fault lies where the thin thread is tied, and to what.

Either way, it leads to you. You haven't contributed any on topic arguments since you made the first off topic post about how colleges work.
