Just a little over 50 months until the 2024 election.  Let's hope there are a couple of good candidates to vote for.

Hi Big,

I've been voting for President since my first vote in '64.  IMO it very rare to have 'a couple of good candidates to vote for.'

But, I'm with you; we can hope.

Maybe good was the wrong choice of words.  I am not too thrilled with the current candidates nor the ones in 2016.

Maybe in 2024 there is someone I feel I can actually vote for.

One of them may not be God's gift to Americans, but the other is awful in almost every conceivable way.

Hi Big,

Are you saying you are not going to vote for anyone for President this year?

If so, please consider John's comments.

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  However, not voting is a choice that is allowed.

FIFY.

"Two weeks ago, William Evanina, director of the United States National Counterintelligence and Security Center, published a somewhat vague warning about various forms of foreign interference in the upcoming election. On Friday, he followed up with a more direct and incriminating one, specifically warning that Russia is working to help reelect Donald Trump. Even more important is what this warning unmistakably implies: that Trump and his Republican allies in Congress are actively cooperating with Russia’s campaign."

If any rational human being sees this "We cover stories that are usually untold or kept hidden from the general public." on a media outlet then little mental alarm bells should start going off.

Maybe if they’re both passive evils, or fairly equivalent. When one is actively trying to do things you think are negative, and the other simply isn’t countering them enough, that’s a reason to vote for one of them in my book

Hi folks,

'Research from CIRCLE, a research center at Tufts University, found that nearly 1 in 5 young voters who backed Republicans in 2018 plan to support Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden this year.'

PS)  I just realized that this post is in violation of the posting rules.  So let me add:  It looks like the future of the RNC may not be what Trump would like to see.

If they're trying to convince people that they're not Russian based they should probably hire a native English speaker for their rebuttal - that thing is *riddled* with grammar errors.

If a voter picks someone other than one of the two evils in a two-horse-race that decides the future of the country then IMO, they're're a moron. And an ignorant, selfish moron, at that.

Protest votes don't count. Do we really think anything happens to those ballot papers where you write in an alternative candidate? Do you think there's someone in a back room going 'oh look, if only we'd run this third candidate they would have received so many votes!'? Of course not. Those papers get thrown in the trash and your impact on the world is WASTED.

The reason someone writes in or selects a non-valid candidate in a 2 person election is to make themselves feel better. No other reason. It's so they can feel smug about it but have deniability when the elected candidate turns out to be shit. 'Well I didn't vote for him....'.

I will say that with our electoral college vote-by-state system, if you live in a state that’s guaranteed to vote for a given candidate overwhelmingly, then a third party vote is irrelevant.
With the churn in this election, those states aren’t as numerous as they were in the last one. And with the current president all but guaranteeing an angry protest and maybe uprising if he doesn’t win, then a large popular vote, even in the safely-opposing states, still matters.
And that near promise of his is an important reason to vote. Delegitimize his ass.

A write-in vote is not discarded if, and only if, the candidate has registered for the state election.

Example: In 2010 Lisa Murkowski lost the GOP senate primary in Alaska. She registered as a write-in candidate, and won the election.
