The US is a Banana Republic

No wonder America has a police problem!

In what civilised country do the police need $454 Million dollars worth of military equipment that includes bayonets and grenade launchers? Admittedly for both those examples the numbers have decreased, although Obama had banned their sale to the police, but Trump reauthorised in 2017

“GENEVA (Reuters) - The top U.N. human rights body agreed on Monday to hold an urgent debate on allegations of “systemic racism, police brutality and violence against peaceful protests” in the United States and elsewhere on Wednesday.

The U.N. Human Rights Council’s decision followed a request last week by Burkina Faso on behalf of African countries in response to the killing of George Floyd, an African American, on May 25 under the knee of a white Minneapolis police officer. His death has ignited protests across the nation and worldwide.” Reuter’s

Up next, Zimbabwe and Iraq send inspectors to ensure that the USA has free and fair elections...

Barr is up to his old tricks again as a yes man for trump. He ordered the firing of US attorney in Manhattan, Geoffrey Berman. But Berman refused to go. He is investigating trumps closest lieutenants and foot soldiers. He's on the team that put Cohen behind bars and is now onto Giuliani.

This conduct ranks as five out of five bananas for corruption.

This one is really strange (in addition to being a poster child for Trump's corruption).

Apparently, Barr can't fire him.

He was appointed as 'acting' by Sessions. That was done because the Ds in the Senate vowed to block his nomination, because he was a true Trumpette in a place where Trump had a LOT of ongoing investigations.

And Barr didn't officially 'fire' him. Barr said he was going to resign ('step down' was the term in the press release). As noted above, Berman said "Nuh Uhhhh".

There's a whole lot more to this.

Heather Cox Richardson did a pretty good job of explaining it (the post from June 19th for those reading it in the future):

Graham signals he won't take up U.S. attorney pick without Schumer, Gillibrand signoff

Is Lindsey starting to morph into a vertebrate???

No, when a ship is on fire the rats start sniffing around "Is that smoke...is that smoke?" Graham is sniffing around to ascertain if there is smoke and which way the wind is blowing.

He didn't have a backbone when he was part of the Three Amigos and doesn't now.

Well its gone full banana.

"Attorney William P. Barr said on Saturday that President Trump had fired the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, who has investigated the president’s closest associates, deepening a crisis over the independence of law enforcement and the president’s purge of officials he views as disloyal.

Mr. Trump removed the prosecutor, Geoffrey S. Berman, United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, after he had refused to step down on Friday night. The president’s announcement capped an extraordinary clash over an office that has been at the forefront of corruption inquiries into Mr. Trump’s inner circle."

Evidently trump is now trying to clone a couple hundred more Barr's so he can appoint them in all the important prosecutor offices. Where the trump family capos are under investigation.

Regardless of any legal arguments about who may or may not fire a court-appointed US Attorney, this is just another example** of the level of corruption in the Trump administration.

** Other recent examples include the firing of IG's in a number of federal departments.

Barr makes Jeff Sessions look like cub scout.

Berman needs to go to the judge that hired him and submit a motion to dismiss trump's termination of employment.

Trump posing with an array of Goya products on the Resolute desk today seems a pretty obvious breach of ethics rules, but if not, at the VERY least demeans the position of the President.

Got a brand? Get official US sponsorship and support by saying something nice about the president!

Zero respect.

That's what you get from the cancel culture. <Shrug>

I'm just wondering why they keep doing this - Didn't they learn from their Chick-Fil-A experience?

I’m not going to read Turtle’s reply, but I’m certain it’s a reply that only someone who is completely centrist and not at all biased could write.

How is it Pelosi’s fault this time?

He was talking about the cancel culture.

Here's another excellent article (as usual) from The Atlantic:

Some people have begun calling it cancel culture, as a way of belittling it. I have a different name for it, I call it accountability.

I think The Atlantic article does a decent job separating the good and the bad.
