It'll be hard to pay less than zero. Meanwhile, back to hockey. The Canadian Biotech firm Providence Therapeutics, that was producing it's own mRNA vaccine, is uprooting for greener pastures claiming lack of federal support. If their claims are true, and I'll start by believing your Pharma Bro's are no more believable than ours, that's not good.

Providence actually has no product, and no production. Just big plans, big PR and a big hand extended asking for money.

Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe

'Widely circulating coronavirus variants and persistent hesitancy about vaccines will keep the goal out of reach. The virus is here to stay"

If true, the combination of an ageing GOP and their anti-science bias. Will further fulfill the Darwin equation of shrinking numbers. Those who believe in science will take annual booster shots and live on the sidelines of the continuing pandemic.

Covid cases will continue in the US for several more years.

"The new survey also found that only 9 percent of adults who hadn’t gotten the shot planned to do so, suggesting the country is nearing the limit of people planning to get immunized."

"The share of adults who say they’ve gotten at least one dose of a vaccine or intend to do so as soon as possible inched up from 61% in March to 64% in April, while the share who want to “wait and see” before getting vaccinated – a group that had been steadily decreasing in size since over several months – remained about the same in April (15%) compared to March (17%). Among Republicans, a group that has been slower to embrace the vaccine, over half now say they’ve gotten at least one dose or will do so as soon as they can. The share of Republicans who say they will “definitely not” get vaccinated decreased from 29% in March to 20% in April but remains substantially larger than the share among Democrats or independents."

Using the above survey. Of the 74 million trump voters in the last election, 14.8 million would choose to be not vaccinated. If they all got covid at the current US mortality rate there would be 262,000 less trump voters by midterms. Of course i know trump isn't running in the midterms.

If the Democrats pass a bill requiring Covid 19 vaccination cards as ID to vote, the entire government would be Democrat or a lot of reluctant Republicans would be lining up to get vaccinated.

So now that imbecile DeSantis is suing the CDC to get cruise lines back in business.

Florida Sues CDC To Get Cruise Ships Back On The Water Immediately

Will someone 'splain to me why the governor of a US state has his panties in a wad over foreign companies???

Carnival Corporation & plc - incorporated in Panama & UK

Royal Caribbean Group - incorporated in Liberia

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings - incorporated in Bermuda

On top of that, the ships are all foreign-flagged and staffed by foreign citizens.

Well, DeSantis' idiocy is having some repercussions.

Part of the Executive Order he put in place last month prohibits businesses from requiring vaccinations (or proof of it).

The cruise ships have an issue with that.

Both the CDC recommendations and the Cruise Lines themselves are insisting on it.

So at least one is threatening to pull out of Florida if they can't ensure passengers are vaccinated. Among other reasons, many places the ships put into for port calls are foreign countries, places that require visitors to be vaccinated. Not to mention the Covid outbreaks on ships last spring.

On a different note, a school district near me had the school board decide to lift ALL Covid Restrictions. All of them. Masks, distancing, even quarantine rules for those testing positive.

As soon as that went public, school sports started getting cancelled. The opposing teams said they weren't going to show up to play if there were zero rules.

At least some folks aren't completely stupid.

That's it!  Require ID to vote, and require proof of vaccination to vote in person.  Proof of vaccination counts as ID.  Problem solved.  And republicans have been clamoring for voting ID for years, so they are sure to support this.  Right?  Right?

>>>>>>Proof of vaccination counts as ID.  *Except that you need an ID to get the vaccine - which can be problematic.

In some cases, BuzzFeed News has found, eligible people are rejected even when they show up with documents that fit the site’s stated rules, highlighting a patchwork of inconsistent and sometimes arbitrary policies across vaccination centers. While officials have imposed ID requirements with the stated intent of making vaccine distribution more equitable, they have also created barriers for many in high-risk populations, including undocumented immigrants, older adults who don’t drive, and people experiencing homelessness.

In response to the incidents described in this story, Walgreens, Albertsons, and the Los Angeles County health department said they were reviewing their vaccination policies to make sure people who qualify aren’t turned away.

“We require IDs for things like vaccines because there’s just an assumption: ‘Well, everyone must have one,’” said Kat Calvin, founder of Spread the Vote, a nonprofit focused on helping people obtain government-issued photo IDs and getting them to the polls. Up to 11% of adults in the US — or more than 21 million people of voting age — lack such an ID, according to a 2006 report from the Brennan Center for Justice. Older adults, people of color, and people with low incomes were less likely to have one, the survey found. “We have a huge ID crisis in this country, and it affects everything,” Calvin added.

I thought that some of you may find this podcast between Peter Attia, MD and Paul Offit, MD interesting.

Here is the description of the Pod-cast from Peter Attia's you-tube page.

Paul Offit is a pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases and an expert in virology and vaccine development. He currently serves on the FDA committee evaluating COVID-19 vaccines. In this episode, Paul’s second appearance on The Drive, he provides an update on all the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines currently deployed, explains why the concerns raised around the mRNA vaccines are not legitimate, and offers his view on the prospects and timeframe of reaching herd immunity. He also takes a deep dive into immunology, explaining the short-term and long-term immune response to both natural infection and vaccination and how these two can function together to provide durable immunity. Additionally, they discuss the theories on the origins of this virus, what impact the new COVID-19 variants might have, and the recent pausing of the J&J vaccine. Finally, they discuss how we can be better prepared for an inevitable future outbreak of a novel virus. This episode was originally recorded on April 14, 2021.

Part of the problem is that all these Covidoits are not only putting their safety at risk, which frankly no one gives a shit about, they directly and indirectly harm others. Aside from the obvious risk of infecting others, they are creating a massive burden to the general medical community creating massive lines for ALL doctor services. Need a cardiologist? well now you have to wait 2 months because there are tons of covidioits who damaged their heart from the virus and now need a cardiologist too.

Its not just medicine either. Even mental health doctors are maxed out. Try to get a mental health appointment? The wait is 8-10 weeks in most cases. If you actually need mental health services, you absolutely cant wait that long. So in short, I think anyone who chooses to not get vaccinated and then subsequently gets infected should medical service only on a space available basis with the lowest possible priority.

This is the new independent report on the world response to covid. Likely something politicians all over the world would like to conceal.

The world had a chance to avoid the pandemic—but blew it, finds report

"The covid-19 pandemic is a catastrophe that could have been averted, say a panel of 13 independent experts tasked with assessing the global response to the crisis.

Their report, released May 12 and commissioned by the WHO, lambasts global leaders who failed to heed repeated warnings, wasted time, hoarded information and desperately needed supplies, and failed to take the crisis seriously. While some countries took aggressive steps to curb the spread of the virus, “many countries, including some of the wealthiest, devalued the emerging science, denied the disease's severity, delayed responding, and ended up sowing distrust among citizens with literally deadly consequences,” said Helen Clark, co-chair of the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response and former prime minister of New Zealand, on Wednesday."

CDC says fully vaccinated Americans no longer need masks indoors or outdoors in most cases.

The guidelines do not apply to airplanes or health-care settings, CDC officials said. Those who are immune compromised should speak with their doctors before giving up their masks, officials said.

Of course, even though churchgoers are infected at rates greater than everyone else they can continue to rely on Jesus, and the United States Supreme Court, as their vaccine.

"When federal health officials said on Thursday that fully vaccinated Americans no longer needed to wear masks in most places, it came as a surprise to many people in public health. It also was a stark contrast with the views of a large majority of epidemiologists surveyed in the last two weeks by The New York Times.

In the informal survey, 80 percent said they thought Americans would need to wear masks in public indoor places for at least another year. Just 5 percent said people would no longer need to wear masks indoors by this summer.

In large crowds outdoors, like at a concert or protest, 88 percent of the epidemiologists said it was necessary even for fully vaccinated people to wear masks."

One day earlier:

CDC director grilled over mask guidance in heated Capitol Hill hearing "Republicans told Dr. Rochelle Walensky her agency's guidance was unreasonable."

Sure makes it sound like a political decision.

That's pretty funny. A PCP is absolutely not an expert opinion on the topic. The CDC is much more qualified to comment on that piece than some rando PCP is. And you dont even need to ask, any doctor worth their salt is not going to recommend anyone stop wearing a mask. There is no point in even asking.

A fully vaccinated friend, in her mid-30's, went with her 4 year old to visit friends in Florida.  Got back home and was told that her Florida friend's kid (~4 also) had tested positive.  Soon after, both my friend and her 4 year old tested positive -- kid had no symptoms but the fully vaccinated friend did for 7 days.  First thought she just had allergies, then noticed when eating spicy food -- tongue was tingling but she couldn't taste it.  Went to bed and slept 12 hours straight, woke up exhausted. Headaches that neither caffeine nor ibuprofen would touch, nausea, dizziness. Symptoms peaked 4 days after she tested positive.

It is not practical to make the population continue taking precautions as the number of infections fall. There will be a level of transmission that we will have to accept. Like many other diseases in the past. Mostly it will be those who will not get vaccinated who will slowly pass it among themselves. The rest of us are not going to keep up with taking so much care to protect those who won't protect themselves. The immune suppressed people will pay a price as well. Just as they always have been susceptible to various infections.

Completely true and well stated. But children(under 18) have not been vaccinated. Then there are the immune compromised and those who have reduced vaccine effectiveness. But along your thought. No matter what you do you can't control those who either don't care, remain ignorant, or see antivaxerism with pride.

Allowing the un-vaccinated into indoor common areas will have the effects of your post and mine. With contact and spread of newer variants.

CDC announcement was pure politics. Who is going to stop every non-mask wearer to verify vaccination?

Now every anti-vaxer has been given carte blanche to go around contracting/spreading and developing new variants.

Just dumb!
