60 people show up for choir practice.
Physical contact is avoided.
Now 45/60 have COVID-19 and 2 are dead.

Pack yourselves in nice tight rows. All stand up together and let your respiration ring out in harmony. What could go wrong?

In my mind Trump is directly responsible for the death of the guy who used unmedicated hydroxychloroquine and should be charged for it.

The guy ingested a compound used for cleaning fishtanks called chloroquine phosphate.  That's not the same thing as hydroxychloroquine.

Both are used to treat malaria:

And compare the diagram of the molecule at the upper righthand corner of the page. It is almost identical.

That wiki page does show Chloroquine described as "Other names: Chloroquine Phosphate" which to we on the internet forums doesn't help my argument, however it's a compound that becomes toxic at levels barely above pharmaceutical grade doses.  One can certainly see the confusion but ingesting something that is labeled as a fish tank cleaner shows a lack of common sense.  The fact that they were the only people out of many who own this cleaner is indicative of that common sense.

I've come to the realization that the only way the majority of people here in the US will take the shelter in place seriously is when they start to see people they know dying.  Right now it's celebrities but soon we'll all know someone.

John Prine is in bad shape. We have quite a few people here who would rather not inconvenience themselves. Like you, my wife is an RN, I am not allowed to bend the rules.

Hmm..., hmm..., I seem to recall that same behavior elsewhere. Give me a few minutes, I'll remember.

I don't think the majority of people in the US will take shelter in place seriously until they are told to shelter in place.  Eight states still have no shelter-in-place orders at all; 13 have shelter-in-place only for some of their cities.  This is another area where the federal government could be helping out.

Trump’s Lies On Coronavirus Testing

To March 20th the US had conducted 133,444 C-19 tests.

Canada with about1/10th the population, 220,000 tests to date(today).

But that fits a narrative for trump and his defenders. It also underscores the degree and distribution of C-19 in US states. But heck now that Easter is out there is always Memorial Day. Just test less. AFAIK trump never did like tests.

It also fits the conservative view that "socialist" medicine bad, "free market" good.

Honestly the first few celebrity cases immediately cemented for me the seriousness of the outbreak. It wasn't the usual thing of it being mostly confined to a few tiny pockets (and usually poorer areas), it was getting EVERYWHERE.

This is EXACTLY my point.

Chemistry is complicated and different compounds can sound very similar while having very different effects. That's why we don't need someone with a room temperature IQ handing out advice. It needs very clear and consistent communication, which is Trump's weakest trait.

If Joe Public tweets something that's one thing - follow advice of random tweets at your own risk,  but we KNOW there are people who inherently trust what the President says, whoever it is, without fact checking. To me that would be a massive responsibility. Trump doesn't even recognize the fact, let alone alter his behavior based on it.

Picked up a new tidbit of info with regards to ventilators.  I guess not just anyone can set up and operate a vent.  20,000 or 30,000 vents aren't going to be useful without the folks to set them up and operate them.

On top of that you can only be on a vent for ~10 days before you need to be trached,

It's not like we had a Jonestown event with masses snorting their fish cleaning supplies.

That's exactly right.  A storehouse of ventilators is useless without the space, resources and manpower to set them up and employ them.

And the Covid-19 patients on ventilators are staying on them longer than most ventilated patients -- 1-2 weeks, instead of the 2-4 days that's more common. This also increases stress on the supply, on the patient, and on the healthcare workers who have a much higher proportion of really critical (i.e. vented and unconscious) patients to take care of.

Not seeing anything in here about the CDC tests not working.  That might have something to do with it as well, but that's more difficult to examine because of your TDS.

South Korea had a massive mobilization, with drive-thru testing and lockdowns of entire cities.

And the only reason the US is behind is because of the CDC's test accuracy? Got it.

Where did I say it was the only reason?  It certainly had an impact.
