Trump considering travel restrictions at US-Mexico border over coronavirus:

US has 68 cases. Mexico has 4:

DId you miss this part?

“We’re thinking about all borders, we have to think about that border,” Trump said. “This is not a border that seems to be much of a problem right now, we hope we will not have to do that.”

Well...the WHO estimates 300-600,000 people die from influenza each year.  Estimates of the current death toll are at ~3,000 for covid-19. Certainly it will go higher.  But the same people that die from the flu will die from covid-19.  A healthy individual will probably be sick but not die.  Old...compromised respiratory and/or cardiac system...look out.

Effect on the world markets?  would be much less if the media wasn't whipping this thing into a frenzy.

Number of Deaths per 100,000 Population Caused by Influenza and Pneumonia

The previously quoted mortality rate for covid-19 is 2%, from above .000143 or 14.3 deaths per 100k infections in the US. Also showing higher mortality rates in poorer US states.

Did you miss the part that came before that?

“We are thinking about the southern border, ” Trump said, speaking during a press conference at the White House. “We are looking at that very strongly.“

Trump’s comments come after the news agency Reuters reported the White House was considering imposing entry restrictions with Mexico to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, although there are only 3 confirmed cases there. The United States, on the other hand, has confirmed 66 cases of the illness.

There are more than 85,000 confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide and at least 2,941 deaths, the overwhelming majority of them in China, where the illness first surfaced. Asia and Europe are the hardest hit areas of the world, while Latin America has reported very few cases so far. In addition to Mexico, Brazil has reported 1 confirmed case of the virus.

Trump appeared to roll back his statement when challenged by a reporter over his reason for considering action on the U.S. southern border given how few cases of the coronavirus there are in Mexico at the moment.

If you're limiting the comparison to these 50 states the scare gets even more ridiculous.

I know but its difficult to quantify the US health care system with traditional quality health care in western countries. The US has 66 confirmed cases now and one US fatality.

You guys are funny...Reuters reports the WH is CONSIDERING and it must be something against brown people.  Have you visited Mexico?  And I mean more than swimming over to the bar at the resort.  Do you think their reporting of cases is anything close to being accurate?

What is it you think he needs to understand?

Science?  That vaccines work and do not cause autism?  That the WHO is a good resource for dealing with worldwide pandemics rather than a bunch of evil globalists?   That appointing a science-denying figurehead with a proven track record of failure on public health the "Coronavirus czar" might not be a good thing?

Things like that.

THERE ya go.  It didn't take long for you to make Cornonavirus into a way to score cheap political points rather than a disease that's killed thousands.  Your fellow GOPers must be proud of you for reframing this debate.

Remember, everything is about you and your party.

Pretty fucked up that you've only been back for several days and you're already using the deaths of this outbreak to troll the forums with more of your divisive, single-minded horseshit just to take jabs at religion and those with differing political views.

IMO George W. Bush was of ordinary intellect. Not stupid by any means, "potatoe" aside.

I mean all this time off and you still can't get your shit straight, lol.  That was Dan Quayle.

I'm glad you're back Phil.  You make this easy.:p

Quite right about Quayle. Certainly as a trumpite republican. You'd know that. Certainly didn't miss your baiting without purpose. Instead of quoting me again and again you could have brought some facts to the covid-19 debate.

Except you can't seem to support your child like debating skills with fact, purpose, logic or conclusion.

Troll, you can't seem to understand or recognize that these forums are for discussion and debate about politics. Predominantly trump. You can't seem to separate his stupidity in speech, thought and action. From your personal endorsement of him and whats become of the old republican party.

Reflect on that idea and you won't see trolls hiding behind every thought.

So you would have us believe the reporting out of Mexico is as lacking in credibility as the statements out of the current Whitehouse?

Your ego is only matched by your foolishness. If you imagine a period of time that anyone is not here reading your drivel. Arises from anything you come up with.

Then you are in mindstep with your stupid friend. Narcissistic personality disorder — one of several types of personality disorders — is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration

The desire to protect ourselves and our fellow citizens really has dick all to do with the idiot in chief, but his refusal to listen to any specialists, scientists, medical specialists, and anyone with a pulse and a handful of brain cells actually might. Besides, he's too busy telling lies and making out with the US flag to care.

Have you ever visited Mexico — with curiosity, not judgment? There are systems that work, and plenty of people there who love their country, and want to live in their homes. And I’ll just bet that they have people counting stuff, just as we do. And why would they have more corona virus than we do — the US is a far more likely business and pleasure trip destination for possible carriers than Mexico.

They have a huge problem right now with drug dealer violence. We contribute to it, as their primary customers. That doesn’t make it all our fault, but it should inform our opinions.

Not everything should be judged by whether you’d do it exactly the same. Maybe there’s more than one best way, and more than one valid society.

I've been to Mexico many times.  And not just the resorts.  This isn't a dig at Mexicans, it's the reality that much of the country outside of the major metropolitan areas is 3rd world and I'm quite sure there are many, many places that might not have a doctor who would know what to report, much less whether he/she was dealing with covid-19.

There are places in Appalachia and the deep south and parts of the southwest of the USA that are pretty 3rd world too.
