Russia meddling to help Trump win re-election, US lawmakers hear

Recommended Posts

Putting this here for discussion because Turtle didn't want it in his humor thread.

"US intelligence agencies have warned that Russia is attempting to help President Donald Trump get re-elected in November, US media report. The comments came in a closed-door briefing to the House Intelligence Committee on 13 February, officials told US outlets."

And then

"President Trump was reportedly enraged, complaining that Democrats would use the information against him. He replaced his acting intelligence chief, Joseph Maguire, on Thursday.

Mr Maguire was a favourite to be nominated for the permanent Director of National Intelligence (DNI) post, the Washington Post said. However, the paper said the president changed his mind when he found out about the briefing, and what he called the "disloyalty" of his staff."

This is serious, not matter what side of the aisle you're on.

Please. WRITE to your elected officials. Not just about the concern of a foreign power interfering in our elections, but about the President acting more and more like a dictator. How are your politicians supposed to make informed decisions if they're not getting the truth from Intelligence employees because they all get instantly fired if Trump doesn't like what he hears? This behavior in no way benefits us as a country or a people.

"You're just being dramatic and hateful of Trump"

How dare those of us that care and are seriously concerned actually say something about the current state of the treasonous leadership in our country??? I'm discouraged our efforts are falling on deaf ears in our reps too.

What specifically is Russia doing?

Further - would you be a voice to stop it if they declared that Bloomberg would be their man?

Way to miss the point. And stop trying to make strawmen arguments. This isn't about what MIGHT have happened, or who it's about. I get really tired of this nonsense form of arguing of yours.

We don't know what Russia was doing. It was a closed door hearing.. If it was something sketchy then our government should know about it (which is the job of the intelligence services) and do something, but they won't be able to do this in future because they won't get the information they need because it'll all be kept secret by Trump sycophants who place their employment and prosperity above the welfare of the country.

What MATTERS to us as an electorate is Trump's reaction to this news. He instantly strikes out at anything he doesn't like and sees anyone reporting it as 'disloyal'. That's not healthy for a democracy.

I see a statement in that article that the timing is a coincidence.

Why was that omitted from your quote of important facts?

Meanwhile...Trump has instructed aides to identify and remove officials across the government who aren’t defending his interests, and he wants them replaced with loyalists.

You want to give a cite to that or are you simply being overly dramatic?  I keed.

You'd think it impossible to actually find factual evidence these days.

It seems to me to require very little effort to verify or disprove most of the insanity.

Much easier to just take things at face value or dismiss them entirely.

Clinton’s statement was that his timing of the meeting on the tarmac was a coincidence. Doesn’t stop you from not believing it.

I agree with Yoink.

I agree with Yoink.

It has been debunked.

Clinton was waiting on the tarmac to attend that meeting.

It was pretty obvious, just as the dismissal is pretty obvious.

I want facts.

I don't convict based on feels anymore.

No it hasn’t been debunked. There are conflicting stories. You just choose to believe one side of it. Even the IG report only suggests it, but doesn’t state it outright.

If you want facts and don’t convict based on feels there is no way you can say it has been debunked.

First - I'm not convicting - Second - The book out about it has little to no refute.  Suspiciously no refute from the clinton's themselves, nor from Lynch.

Sanders told Russia is trying to help his campaign

At least it's a bi-partisan effort.

Sure. All of the social media efforts regarding socialism will do wonders for him.

Sowing division and pushing disinformation isn't really helping Bernie's campaign.

Using a headline of "helping" when in the article the terms are actually "involved in" and "efforts". They're pushing for confusion, division, and making the democrat candidate that will compete against Trump as weak as possible. It's not a bi-partisan effort by any means.

Funny you cannot discern the differences in reporting and the actions that the media reports.

No wonder the disinformation has succeeded.
