Riiiiiiiight.  Because it only happens when it's the other guys.  [eye roll.]

Oh, wait!  I have a time machine!

Flash back to when it was 16 hours...  No, wait, I messed that up: 16 days!...   before the GOP caucus picked a winner.

Kind of weak sauce, man.

I bet you're one of those people that would have lambasted a prior Democratic President for the things Trump does on a daily basis, and you're too damn scared to admit that your entire motivation is partisan and not based in consistency.  You just want "your side" to win; doesn't matter how.

Did I win the bet?

That was here when we started, it is called a sunk cost.  All we have done is mitigate that cost

Wiggle as much as you like. I just Googled your DZ and that is a beautiful valley that County airport is in. I'll bet Elon Musk would be very happy if he could have the kind of subsidized infrastructure needed to operate his business from like you do.

Sunk cost, Google it.

Subsidy, Google it.

I did,
sub·si·dy

/ˈsəbsədē/

noun

plural noun: subsidies

1.

a sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service may remain low or competitive.

As we never got a penny, it is safe to say we did not get any subsidies

The government subsidizes the aviation industry. You are part of it. As if you did not know. How long would your business last if you had to go out and buy a private airstrip and land for a DZ?

Government subsidies?!?  That's socialism!  Isn't anyone who receives socialism supposed to set themselves on fire while humming the Battle Hymn of the Republic

(I hear they used to allow you to hum This Land is Your Land or Born in the USA while you were burning instead, but then they figured out those are socialist, too...)

I'm sure Woody Guthrie would be glad that you understand that. The Boss would approve as well.

Hey man, I'm just acknowledging that clearly Fox News and its followers has taught us all that government subsidies are the work of the Devil.  Want public health care?  Nah, you're a Satanist.

Clearly, the only righteous path back - if you've received government funding - is to self-immolate.

I'll pick up some marshmallows because I know Brent is gonna.  I mean, he seems so consistent and true to his word.

You are being ridiculous now, by your logic the government subsidizes you by providing roads. (That you pay for)

No, no, no! Farm subsidies to offset losses caused by tariff wars are also sacred!

Forgive me for being an optimist. This place used to generate some interesting discussion (and on rare occasion still does), it wasn't always entirely a shit-slinging range... ;)

Consider some of the company, and, yeah, generate your own content. When nearly everyone responds to the shit-flinging, it’s not surprising it turns into a shitstorm

Geez. No, sorry.  Is that your best retort?  Not quite an ad hominem, but still pretty meager.

i mean, my points stand.

First, you benefit from socialist policies such as airports and yet you denounce socialist policies.  And fail to see the hypocrisy.

Second (technically first in terms of order I raised them, but you weren’t paying attention anyway), you are partisan and refuse to acknowledge that your positions are more about “winning” than anything else).

So, how much rent to you pay for all that concrete? You know, the taxiways and runways? How much rent do you pay for that big grass landing area? If you are like most DZs, the answer is zero. The government supplies it to you for free.

Not necessarily.

Every airport I've jumped out of is/was privately owned.

The rent for the hangar (or ground lease for the places that built/owned the building but leased the land it was on) paid for the taxes on the land and upkeep of the grounds (grass runways in one case).

Fuel revenue wasn't a factor, because the DZs had their own fuel supply.

There was a decent amount of positive give-and-take at some of the places. Particularly in mowing the grass. The airport didn't care much if the grass grew up to a foot or so. The jumpers wanted a closer cut for the landing areas. So the airport leadership allowed the DZ access to the mower, or purchased a mower and parked it in the DZ hangar in one case (you want it that length, you take care of it).

The government does provide ATC services. But the actual 'service' is usually pretty minimal. And paid for with fuel taxes.

Very good!

Isn't it great that you get free ATC services so you can run your business safely?

Isn't it great that you get free roads so your customers can get to your business cheaply?

Since I put in much more than I do (or ever will) take out, I would just say "thank you".

BTW news flash, the government doesn't pay for anything.

But I digress, lets get back to discussing how your next nominee will be either a gay 38 year old former mayor, a 78 year old socialist, or a former Republican.

Yep.  Paid for by other people's taxes, of course - whether they skydive or not.  Those are fine.  It's just socialism that benefits OTHER people that he has a problem with.
