kallend 1,621 #1 Posted July 23, 2019 The UK scored first in the Stupid Stakes with the Brexit vote, but the USA played its Trump card in November 2016 and leveled the score. The UK today re-took the lead by choosing Boris Johnson as PM.

mr2mk1g 10 #3 July 23, 2019 Don't forget that he wasn't chosen by the UK but by just 92,153 paid up party members, who are mostly pensioners. He's also going to have to work very hard indeed to remain in office for more than just a few weeks. Both wings of his own party are already threatening to bring him down and the official opposition party has said they are also going be trying to oust him (and on this side of the pond they genuinely have the mechanisms to do so given the current Parliamentary arithmetic). The strange thing is that in my constituency we're currently fighting a by-election as the previous incumbent was convicted of forging his expenses claims and 20% of the electorate signed a petition to recall him. The poll happens on 1st August but if BoJo the clown can't command the confidence of the house we'll be facing a (very likely) General Election and whichever candidate wins, we'll be doing it all over again in about two months. It turns out HALF of the prime ministers in the last century have been grandfathered in.

I realise the public didn’t elect him, but it seems like we are seeing more extremist politicians in top spots

kallend 1,621 #9 July 25, 2019 Nice quote in today's Wapo: "Trump is a lout masquerading as a political virtuoso. I suspect Boris is just the opposite."
