Flagging yourself

Recommended Posts

I got a nasty PM yesterday from a fellow Canadian. Apparently he does not approve of my posting style here and thinks I am "A poor ambassador for Canada". He told me I had no right to have a Canadian flag beside my name and demanded that I remove it immediately. My answer to him was not polite in the least. However, it occurs to me that most people don't have flags. Probably because they don't know how to set them. So here goes. It is not in your profile settings like it used to be. You need to go into Settings / Account Settings / then in the left panel select country, then you can select your country from the drop down list, and finally save the setting.

C'mon people, lets get some flags flying.....

God damn right.  Not to be impolite, but aren't Canadians famously polite?  I'd like to see what you'd consider a strongly worded, impolite response and compare it to what I'm picturing my response would be if someone charged me with the same.

Bahahaha "Kindly ask..."

I was right lol

IFL Canadians

I would just like to say that this Canadian is not one of the regular posters here. I don't know him and his name is not familiar to me. This came completely out of the blue. ( I do not want anyone to wonder if it could be so and so.)

I didn't want to offend the international community that might perceive it as an arrogant display of pride by an ugly American. :P

I lurk here now and again but I don't think I have seen any of your posts that would reflect badly on Canada.

I am glad you offered him some "robust advice" and that you still fly your flag.

Regards

John

I was unaware that you were the Canadian Ambassador. I thought you drove truck. ;)

While this is a private site, owned by South Africans & hosted on Canadian servers (at least it used to be), the latitude allowed for civil discourse & debate is pretty broad. It's not true 'freedom of speech' (the mods see to that), but outside of truly offensive statements (racist, hateful, threats, PAs), people are allowed to voice (type) their views.
While I certainly don't agree with some of your positions, you post in a civil manner, and do so in a literate and logical way. That goes a long way for me. The fools who believe in truly stupid crap, or who can't be bothered to worry about spelling and grammar tend to end up on my 'ignore' list.

I was unaware that the flag thingie was an optional setting. I like the flags, if for no other reason than it gives a bit of perspective on the poster. Literally 'where they are coming from', which is pretty helpful in evaluating their posts.
Thanks for sharing it.

Did your argument consist of the two of you saying "Please" and "Thank you" and "something something Tim Horton's."

I think it's safe to say that you & I are on opposite sides of the spectrum most of the time. You have the fucking right to express your opinion about anything; anytime. Tell them to piss off.

Just tell him to disable your flag in the account settings if he doesn't want to see it.

They don't have those freedoms in socialist countries, duh.
