DNC Hopefuls

Well said komrade kallend.

But it is our business.  People have a right to know how the candidates are chosen.  I can see by many here the left isn't interested in getting the candidate that is best for the country, merely the candidate that can unseat Trump.

That IS the candidate that is best for the country.

To a decent number of people, the best thing for the country is to get rid of Trump. Not because he’s a conservative, but because he’s a manipulative short-term thinker who thinks his ass is the best place to pull all ideas from, and that his position as president is an opportunity to reward agreement and punish disagreement

Yes, he cut taxes, providing some short-term gain for some of his supporters, and structured in such a way that as many of the “liberal states” as possible would not benefit. But at a cost to the nation in the form of a deficit that keeps increasing.

I wouldn’t vote for someone who promised to double down on Trumpism as the alternative. But Skippy the Wonder Dog is lookin’ kind of good

To add on, to me this abuse of personal power (as I see it) is exactly what Joe Everyman wishes he or she could do to their boss when they’re feeling (or being) put upon.

Everyone has petty small-minded thoughts sometimes. Trump embodies them; that’s not a good thing in the long run. Grownups should use their words :halo:

Yeah well, that's just like your opinion man.

I ask seriously, and not only of you but of any of the hard right leaners here, is there anything Trump is actually doing now that would cause you to say enough and vote for a centrist Democrat?

The left here doesn't get what the impeachment actually accomplished.  Trump would have been a one termer for sure if you had just let him tweet himself to death.  Instead you made him look like a victim to his supporters.  That's the kind of political currency you can't buy.

I would love to vote for someone other than Trump if you'll put up a candidate that I think I could support.  Bloomberg isn't the guy.  The progressive shit he did while he was mayor was just stupid.

That's all speculation and supposition. Putting aside whether the local left gets the consequences of impeachment, my question was to you: is there anything Trump is actually doing now that would cause you to say enough and vote for a centrist Democrat?

No.  We got into this mess by being more concerned with winning than what's good for the country.  I won't throw out the proverbial baby and the bathwater until you guys put up someone who will do better.

Thank you. Please explain what you mean by this: " We got into this mess by being more concerned with winning than what's good for the country."

I'm curious as to whom is thought to be "Hard Right".

I think Joe should post a list, so that those on the the list can have an opportunity to respond.

You could have had Bernie but the DNC wanted HRC because they thought she had a better chance at winning.  Then there was the whole meeting on the tarmac thing.  The left would have gone for Bernie and more intelligent right voters I think would have as well.  In order to hear Bermie's message you have to pay attention...something I admit the right has trouble doing.

Now you're doing it again with Bloomberg.

FWIW, I do appreciate your response. I don't disagree that the left can be tone deaf at times. But it was what matters most to you that drives my curiosity today.

It seems to me that your main, if not sole, focus, are the transient economic benefits of a Trump Presidency. In exchange, you'll gladly accept the diminution of rights of certain fellow Americans, a deconstruction of historic constitutional separation of powers, oversight and checks and balances and reduced prestige on the world stage. Further you willingly accept foreign interference in our elections and a President who uses his powers for personal gain. All things we on the left find quite strange and none of which seem to be a passing bother to the right.

At the bare minimum I would expect any patriotic American to be willing to endure sacrifice to protect our country from foreign attack. But, apparently, the money comes first these day's. Thank you for the reply.

The Stigma of "Socialist" is what I think scared the DNC off of Bernie the most.

Well, and the fact that the Clinton's have so many favors owed to them, the DNC had to cave.

What was left is the shit sammich we have now.

These days?

Ever since Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy and consequently tripled the national debt.

Sure. The left is perfectly open about which future things we'll take instead of some more money today, not so the right. They scream patriotism and USA! and angrily argue they aren't homophobic, misogynistic, racist or selfish all while turning a blind eye to the consequences of Trumpism. They're laughing at us all the way to the bank, I guess.

Would have gone for Bernie if what? Clinton got millions more votes than Bernie. If it had been the Presidential race it'd have been called a landslide. You can't explain that away by DNC favouritism.

Do you think that the DNC falling in behind her had anything to do with the vote count??

I think so but it's a tough call. Initially I thought it was ET controlling the electronic voting machines. For certain it's only those two possibilities, right?
