It is with overwhelming sadness that I have to report that my friend and colleague Marianne Shockley was taken from us this weekend.  She was at one time a regular presence at Skydive Monroe and the Farm; here on dz.com she posted as blueskyserenity, and to the students at the University of Georgia she was Doc Shock.  Keep her kids in your thoughts, she was a single mom but always did her best for them.  Her boyfriend has been charged with her murder.

This was a gut punch for sure!!  She was an angel of a soul!  She was christened Mariposa Rodriguez by myself and Boboso Rodriguez. She busted her A$$ to get her Ph.D., so she could always provide for her family, and make a better impact on the world, and a bug’s life!  She was a great, warm, funny person, who would have slain dragons for her kids!!  They are in my thoughts.

She loved bugs....one of my favorite memories is of her and her kiddos wading around the pond at the Farm scoping for bugs!!

She will be dearly missed, and always loved!. Blue skies, my Mariposa!  Blue skies for BlueSkySerenity, always and forever!

I cannot even handle this news today. One of our old school dz.commers who was such a shining and bright light in our community. It was always so great to see her at the Fitz boogie every year. She was such a sweet woman, and so, so smart. Her death is so not fair.

Marianne came to mind again lately. My daughter has a chrysalis in her dorm room at college and I thought to ask Marianne what it was and when it would open. Miss you lady.

Post a photo anyway.  Maybe I can ID it.  I think Marianne would have appreciated a photo like that here.

I miss her too.  I've taken over teaching her course in Ecuador and the Galapagos.  It's great fun but when I'm there I think of her every day.

Will someone please explain the logic of men who kill estranged ex-partners?

I have been through a few "unpleasant" break-ups and the last thing I wanted was to see my "exs" for any reason. One "ex" used the courts to keep her hand in my wallet for 7 years after I left.

The “boyfriend” wasn’t convicted of Marianne’s murder but he is in prison for drugs and other things. There’s a podcast called Bloodtown about her murder and case and an episode of 48 Hours about her. 
Marianne’s son, Paul, has also passed since. Age 21. Heartbreaking.

It is; I went back and read part of the "48 Hours" transcript. I'm sorry to hear about her son -- that's a lot to happen to him, and to his younger sister.

At least he is in jail. And probably for longer than he would have gotten if he was found guilty.

I had no idea about her son, but looked it up, wow.
