I wonder how many people survived the “unsurvivable” storm surge?

Many thankfully. They changed their behaviour as opposed to claiming storm surges don’t exists and there have always been tides.

And just now they changed the storm surge warning from 8-12ft or so, to 15-20ft.

Actual storm surge.....9 feet

Ya, in my experience this is what they exaggerate the most.  I was calling them out big time about that with Irma.

The difference with this one tho is that they made that change when it was the last chance to evacuate.  There were people staying back because of covid, and they were really pressing the issue to get out - saying that covid is the lesser evil at this point.

I typically hate that type of exaggerated alarmist bullshit, but given our response to covid, I see the necessity now.  Sad but true. . .

In the long run that alarmism will kill more people than it saves.  Too many false alarms will cause folks to ignore legitimate ones.

I can't argue with that.  Apparently I'm suffering from the effects of covid and I wasn't even infected. (as far as I know)

I think we all are, if you include economic downturn and isolation.

Somehow I think the surge estimates arise from modeling and not from the National Hurricane Center wanting to alarm or scare people. Nine feet is not to be trifled with I've seen Caribbean Islands devastated by six feet.spacer.png

My wife grew up in Lake Charles.  She still has friends there.  They are basically all homeless, and have no likelihood of having any electrical power for over a month because the infrastructure was destroyed. She thinks most of them will never go back there.

9' or 15' not relevant.

A lack of alarmism has so far killed about 60,000 Americans.  Months of "don't worry about it" "don't wear masks" "it will all go away like magic" "it's a hoax" led to people not taking precautions - and dying by the tens of thousands.  That's fact, not imaginary deaths from an imaginary cause.

Agreed, unlike the imaginary deaths from the imaginary cause of man made climate change.  Even California tabled their Green New Deal to deal with the actual Covid crisis. Just as I predict they will keep their coastal gas fired generators running when faced with the reality of rolling blackouts.

Called it!

It just goes to prove, folks like the idea of green energy much better than the reality of it

If not, there's always the "age of American unreason" thread, or the "the lies are so obvious it just shows contempt" thread, or the "religious joke of the day" thread.

. . .sorry, I couldn't help myself.

That’s why there are crickets from the lefties.:p

”watch us save the planet....at least until the lights go out”

I think they made the right decision. I also don't think this is a reason to believe green energy shouldn't be pursued at all.

I’m all for California’s pursuit of green energy.  As of now they are paying twice the national average for electricity and dealing with occasional blackouts.  After closing a nuclear plant and a few more gas plants, they will have the privilege of paying 4x the national average and will be enjoying weekly rolling blackouts.  Then California will flip red faster than you can say “climate change”

Here are over 1000 deaths from climate change:

Hop on a plane and explain to those families that the deaths of their loved ones are imaginary.

Maybe they should start doing something about that.
