wolfriverjoe 1,340 #1 Posted March 15, 2019 3-14. Calendar equivalent of an approximation of Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to it's diameter. Not as fun as 4 years ago, when it was a lot closer. 3-14-15, and at 9:27 (either AM or PM) was the most accurate it can be. However, this year had a bit of a bonus. https://www.npr.org/2019/03/14/703566696/the-woman-who-calculated-31-trillion-digits-of-pi Pi has now been calculated further than ever before. To 31,415,926,535,897 digits. Which is Pi to 13 digits past the decimal. Not too surprisingly, it was done by a Google employee.
headoverheels 291 #2 March 15, 2019 A friend (and his friends) memorized pi to 1000 digits. He said it wasn't too hard -- just 200 groups of 5 digits.

wolfriverjoe 1,340 #5 March 15, 2019 As was noted in the NPR article I linked, NASA used Pi to the 15th digit to get to the moon. "Close enough" depends on how far you want to go (and still get there).
