Countries with the Best Health Care Systems in the World

US ranks last and spends the most.

Taxation is going to force high income earners to move out of the US? Really? airdvr likes to throw out such outlandish rationale for capitalism. That he should apply to FOX as a screenwriter for Hannity.

Parroting responses in the face of disputing facts belies a inquisitive mind.

Where did I say our health care system is the best?  And...I wasn't referring to the people themselves, simply the companies.  If you don't think companies move their operations where they are the most profitable...visit Detroit.

Oh, I’m sorry, you apparently missed the part with the caption that says “Amazon HQ2- any questions?” As in “Any questions why you should NOT vote for this person to represent your interests?”

Yep.  And if that were the point, there would have been just a big Amazon logo on the poster.

Note that I am not saying you sat down and thought this up; I suspect you saw a right wing meme, said "FUCK YEAH!"  and just reposted it without too much thought.  It happens.

Also note that the authors of the meme did not attack Brad Tusk, Bloomberg's campaign manager.  He said that “this is a case of significant political malpractice, more than anything else.  Amazon did not understand the local politics on the ground at all. . .  they didn't do their homework."  He blamed Amazon for the problem.  But he's a white middle age guy; how is he going to generate any fear?

Likewise, De Blasio taunted Amazon, saying they "threw away their opportunity."  But his mug on a poster won't get the sort of fear that the GOP wants.

So the face on the poster was AOC.  De Blasio won't get the far right wing out to vote; a picture of a young Latina woman will.

She is celebrating Amazon not moving into/next door to her district (depending on where the actual lines are being drawn.). The 14th district has a median/average per capital income a hair under $50k.  Amazon comes into the area and boosts that even 15-20% to 60ish and that would be huge.  Instead she’s mugging the camera about how this NOT happening is a good thing.

Being a woman and a minority has nothing to do with it.

Not one of the people who voted for her would benefit from Amazon taking over their neighbourhood.

Why don't you elaborate then on how the "full potential of our system". Would then be realized to illustrate the benefits of competition? Or other unrealized potentials?

So yes, you did refer to individuals and corporations. You repeatedly make representations about elites and then defend trump policy. About special interest groups benefiting from the status quo. Then attack the focus of this thread.

There’s now an official Green New Deal. Here’s what’s in it.

Oh, no no no no.  This is the boroughs of NYC.  “Right-Wingers” need not apply.  And there was no “meme” required because there is plenty of footage of Occassional-Cortex herself on camera saying that it’s really great Amazon isn’t coming to NY.  And the face on that poster in the 14th District is her’s because, real shock here Bill, IT’S HER DISTRICT!

Crowley, the former rep of the 14th district of NY, was also a Democrat.  The ‘historical event’ of AOC winning the primary and getting the D next to her name only happened because 85% of the 230k Democrats in that district didn’t bother to even show up for the primary as opposed to the 30k that did.  But hey, the 100k plus that actually voted in November did a great job of going “D D D, oh here it is the big D.  Punch that one.”

I do not believe that mistake will be repeated in 2020.  And before you ask, I was born and raised in Western Upstate NY, so I have a particular sensitivity to the rest of the inhabitants of that fine place that have to live under the crushing boot heel of NYC and people like AOC.

Hey, If Amazon is still wanting to be in NY for some reason they can go a few hundred miles WNW and plunk it down in the Finger Lakes or Oswego or Rochester.  I wouldn’t go to Buffalo because the Winter there can really suck.

All four seasons, fishing, boating, two ski mountains about an hour away.

Probably a better choice than Queens.  All the people who work near Queens Blvd are probably breathing a big sigh of relief tonight.

No system is perfect.  As long as we continue to live under the rule of the elites we'll continue to suffer.

Who are the elites? What does that mean?

Worth noting, by the way, that the last two Republican Presidents were born billionaires, and the last two Democrat Presidents had working class single mothers. Who did you vote for?

FACT IS - every developed country with socialized medicine has better health outcomes on just about every measure (from life expectancy to infant mortality) than the USA, and spends less.

Something to interject here.  Some of those current residents may pick up those jobs but many are simply not interested in their neighborhood turning into San Francisco.

Agreed.  There were a whole lot of people against Amazon moving into the neighborhood.  Neigborhood groups, unions, state senators, city council members and local activists all opposed it.

When the deal was nixed there was a lot of celebration in Queens.  At first it looked unstoppable; the world's richest man wanting to put his building where he wanted, with buy-in from the state's political elite.  How could mere neighborhood groups fight against that?  But fight they did - and won.

State Senator  Michael Gianaris said that "today’s behavior by Amazon shows why they would have been a bad partner for New York in any event."   New York City Councilman Carlos Menchac said "Let’s be clear who deserves the credit for this victory against Amazon — the working people of NYC who refused to let another company reap billions in corporate welfare at the expense of the City’s social welfare.”

But putting a picture of Gianaris on a poster wouldn't have scared any republicans, since he is an older white man.

I'm sort of mixed about it because there is allot of misinformation and lies about the deal. Misinformation and lies about the cancellation.

Amazon workers’ median pay in 2017: $28,446

Here's what Amazon stands to gain in NYC incentives

Amazon plans to build about 8 million square feet of space.

It will receive performance-based direct incentives of $1.525 billion based on the company creating 25,000 jobs in Long Island City.

This includes a refundable tax credit through the state’s Excelsior Program of up to $1.2 billion calculated as a percentage of the salaries Amazon expects to pay employees over 10 years.

That equates to $48,000 per job for 25,000 jobs with an average wage of more than $150,000.

Clearly that all just dosn't make sense. Amazon just announced a minimum wage increase to $15 an hour. Median pay is $28,446(median means 50% of employees make less and 50% make more). Now without going into the difference between average and median. The numbers don't make sense.

Finally: Poll shows majority of New Yorkers support Amazon HQ2 project

IMO its somewhat easy to kill a garbage dump, nuclear reactor or reprocessing plant. But to kill a massive number of jobs in an expanding business/industry. The thinking should be rational and focused. At the same time throwing massive subsidies at sports teams or wealthy business. To "win" a special project is also a mistake. Low taxes and efficient government with a educated workforce. Will foster more business.

Come on Phil. You know as well as I do that Amazon HQ jobs will pay many times more than Amazon Fufillment centre (warehouse) jobs. Amazon was not building a warehouse here. Only the salt mine workers get $15/hour.

Apparently, the state's leading shitbrick, Governor Cuomo, has a problem with Brooklyn's shitbrick Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over this brouhaha.

The Dems can't get along. Now with 77 year old Socialist Bernie Sanders throwing his hat in the 2020 POTUS race, I must say it's gonna be fun watching the Dems tear each other apart. The mud slinging's gonna be epic! :P

Meh, this high drama you speak of isn't even making the front page.  As for 2020 POTUS prepare for the most boring circle jerk you've ever seen on a stage come debate time while the candidates bore their viewers to sleep.

You can almost smell the desperation of the right.  They are looking for something - ANYTHING! - to distract from daily dumpster fire that is today's GOP.

"But her emails . . ."

Meh....Bernie is going nowhere this time around. His day is almost as over as Hilary's.

That's my take on it as well. I get the impression he is doing it because a few people want him to rather than his heart actually being in it. It's a different dynamic this time round.
