Green New Deal

Good.  No one will actually pay 70% of their income, either - so the tax that's being proposed now is far lower than the one during the "greatest generation."

The greatest generation in the history of the world was in the 90s after the rich taxes dropped to their lowest level in 50 some years.  The 90s were awesome, full of hope and opportunity.  A kid could walk down the street and easily find at least 3 business willing to pay $10 bucks an hour for 40+ hours.  A couple years ago, people were struggling to find 20 hours at $7.50/hr.  Now they struggle to find 20-30 hours at $9.50.  More people working less hours - Apparently that's what a good economy is these days - and that's been the idea since Obama's last term.  War in the 90s for the most part seemed to be a thing of the past, or at least something that could be dealt with from the air with minimal casualties. . .then it all went to hell again.

Anyway, IMO high taxes in the 20s and then in the 40s-70s seemed to be investments for the "men that built America."  Doubt that incentive exists as much today.  I'm sure there will be plenty that will be happy to give that much away, but how many more will just say to hell with it, ultimately offsetting any difference?

What a load of rubbish.

The greatest generation was in the '60s.  You missed it.

Your reply where you state "she is a threat."  Not her proposals.  Her.

Mea culpa. I phrased that poorly. It should have been something more along the lines of, "She is a threat because her proposals are a socialist's position."

Wait. I just went back and checked. What I said was, "The Democrat side of her is not a threat; it's the "As a Socialist;" she is a threat.

Meaning her socialist proposals.

Pourquoi? Today the US has the lowest unemployment on record. Stock markets are at record levels, both in absolute and for P/E. It is building the most powerful military in world history with two Ford class carriers purchased at the same time last December.

Although G.W. Bush did sign the NAFTA agreement which superseded the US-Canada trade agreement. The accord which boosted trade three fold in 22 years. BTW thats the same agreement which trump has stated to be the worst agreement in US history. Even worse than Louisiana Purchase and Alaska purchase. If he is to believed.

Ocasio-Cortez doesn't scare me. She's literally a dumb ass whose ideas are so far out of whack all I can do is laugh at them.

Oh, and Ilhan Omar... Sometimes I wonder if she really thinks her comments through before spouting them. She decried the TSA agents not getting paid during the shutdown, but then advocates defunding Department of Homeland Security, which of course, TSA, the Secret Service, ICE and a whole bunch of other departments are a part of.

Sounds to me like she wants full access to the border for all immigrants, including those with bad intentions. 9_9

Billy, man, don’t mess with my free stuff.  Tell ya what, we all get “free education and guaranteed housing and guaranteed economic security” and we can all

GO BACK TO SCHOOL!

It’ll be absolutely EPIC!  We’ll have the best frat house on campus!  Hot tubs,  vibrating beds, hot and cold running empty-headed sorority chicks, the sky is the limit!  And Occasional-Cortex is gonna get us that FOR FREE!

There's some serious irrational hate being thrown at AOC.  A lot of right wingers are getting triggered.  It will be an interesting few years.

It is pretty amazing that they've thrust her every action and agenda into the spotlight.  She probably thanks them for this because otherwise she'd just be another freshman congresswoman with no clout.

She took a page from the Trump Campaign Handbook.  Get your mug into the media any way you can.

Except she has personally put forth about zero effort for any of the exposure - other than responding to it anyway.

"In the history of the world?"  Wow.  Not the Renaissance?  Not the American revolution?  Not the end of World War II?

The grass was always greener when you were a kid.  I remember that time as well; my sisters had just graduated from college and couldn't find jobs due to the recession.

Sure, her ideas (from the ACTUAL resolution):

“Providing all people of the United States with — (i) high-quality health care; (ii) affordable, safe, and adequate housing; (iii) economic security; and (iv) access to clean water, clean air, healthy and affordable food, and nature.”

“Providing resources, training, and high-quality education, including higher education, to all people of the United States.”

You think this is "out of whack".

Clearly your (and the Republican) position is to DENY some Americans high-quality health care;  affordable, safe, and adequate housing;  economic security,  access to clean water, clean air, healthy and affordable food,  training, and high-quality education.

No worries.

Let's see if there are any other cases of  "Her proposals are being attacked, but the left tells everyone that the right is attacking her."   Right here we have Billy Vance claiming that "She's literally a dumb ass." Which, aside from the misuse of the literal, is another example of the right attacking her, not her ideas.  She scares the piss out of them.

To be fair, he probably hasn't read it, and has relied on FOX News or the equivalent for his opinion.  He may not take issue with the actual proposals.

Free stuff!  Free stuff!  I shouldn’t have had to take twenty hours of core engineering and work twenty five hours a week in the dining hall to pay my rent and buy my pasta and Campbell’s Pork N Beans!  How was I so wrong?!  All that should have been free!  Forget all those late-night hours studying to keep that partial academic scholarship.  All that crap should’ve been FREE so I could spend my time going out screwing sorority girls.

My former roommates father worked for Southern Co and pioneered that company getting the EV-1 on employee lease-back to satisfy the fleet requirements.  Fantastic car.  If GM went ahead with the EV-2 series hybrid they could have owned that segment of the market before Elon even created PayPal.

I agree.  Killing off the EV-1 was a huge mistake for GM.

Tesla will be either bankrupt or absorbed by another company by 2021 without another massive infusion of capital or rollling it into Space-X.  Put options are still pretty cheap for Jan 2021, you should consider buying some.

Been hearing this for at least 8 years - and the shorts have been doing their very best to make this happen.  Personally I am VERY glad I invested in them, and not a coal company.  But to each their own.

I plan on making money on the concrete, iron, coal, coppper, and other metals/rare earths that are required to create those monstrosities to the sky called 2 MW wind turbines.

Might have to stick to rare earths.  The rest of those materials aren't going to see much movement from renewables.

OK, to which Americans would YOU deny  high-quality health care;  affordable, safe, and adequate housing;  economic security,  access to clean water, clean air, healthy and affordable food,  training, and high-quality education?

Please be specific.

Tesla short sellers are sitting on a paper loss of nearly $2 billion after stock rally

Tesla is most painful stock for short sellers in 2017

Traders short selling Tesla's soaring stock have lost $3.7 billion this year.

Since the beginning of 2016, Tesla is the fourth-worst performing U.S. short bet, and short-sellers have lost $4.70 billion on a net basis over that period, according to S3 data.

Its ok. Misery loves company. $10.4 billion in losses for short sellers in only three years. I only went back three years because there is no point in beating a dead battery.

It appears as if short sellers have lost more since Tesla was founded than the entire market cap of the company($52 billion).

Paul Ryan and company can answer that easily. Anyone who does not already have any or all of those things. It's America after all. If you have not either been born to these things, or have been able to claw your way into them, you obviously are not good enough to deserve them. Dog eat dog and survival of the fittest. But don't confuse that with evolution. God doesn't do evolution. She just takes care of the best people.

Wait.  Are you saying you are one of those elitist, out of touch ivory tower academics?  No wonder!  It's the salt of the earth types that don't have their noses in the air who are the REAL Americans.  They don't need to attend any snooty, elitist colleges to tell them which side is up; they know what's right in their gut.

I asked first, so that was a  really really LAME response, the kind of thing rushmc would throw up reflexively.

However, why is it that the USA cannot provide for its citizens the same quality of life as the Nordic countries manaage, as well as most of western Europe.  Is the USA really so incapable?

(Besides, I took more core engineering than you did,  far more, and I don't whine anything like as much about helping poor people as you do).

There is nothing high quality about living in Socialism. History has proven this.
