The shutdown (the thread)

Recommended Posts

>The Incident.

Perhaps.

In the meantime, the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, took a brave stand on the shutdown and . . . went home for the weekend. "Yeah, we are doing everything we can to end the shutdown - everything, it's our top priority! - but I have a barbecue tomorrow, and I have to deposit my paycheck. You know how it goes."

And in the "pouring salt in their wounds" category, paychecks were mailed to all federal employees involved in the shutdown today. The amount of those checks - $0.00. Apparently sending out checks for zero money is a "critical function."

FWIW, so far this shutdown has cost my company about $70,000 in 2019.

We were slated to start work on a project in Missouri at the start of this year, had all the contracts agreed, but the client can’t get final go-ahead because the guy who needs to sign off the completed and approved Environmental Impact Assessment isn’t at his desk die to the shutdown.

$70k isn’t much for a big company, but for a small consultancy it’s playing havoc with our cash flow and utilization. Should I put those people on other projects? What if the shutdown ends next week and I can’t resource this client? Etc etc.

Trump. Great for small American business.

I believe President Trump is maneuvering the Ds into the checkmate position. The wall is smoke and mirrors.

Yes, I believe the wall is crucial. The funding is there as a training expense for the US Army Corp of Engineers. I think that is the way I heard explained. At least it could be used for a border highway.

The maneuvering is the show.

So you believe that Trump is fucking with the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people for the sole purpose of pure party politics, and you support this?

That totally explains why he pissed off the electorate enough to lose control of House of Representatives. He now has Pelosi right where he wants her. What a genius.

I don't see it as party politics. That is the strategy of the deep state. This is more like business leadership, IMO.

Speaking of party politics, what is the deal with a revote on Brexit? I thought that issue was settled by democratic vote.

From what I have read in the Q drops, the HoR was never the goal. The goal was the Senate. Q predicted the 53-47 outcome in Oct and so it was.

Trump's businesses fail regularly and leave his investors and creditors to hold the bag. The list is long, but bankrupting a casino takes real ineptitude.

And then there is Trump U, which turned out to be a fraudulent operation, and the Trump Foundation, closed down under court supervision for financial irregularities.

No it wasn’t.

It was basically an opinion poll with no required consequences.

Current polls show that the result would go the other way by a large margin, in part because a lot of the very old folks who voted for an exit (because like you they believe simply that foreign=bad) are dead now.

Nonsense.

Buzzword nonsense. The term 'deep state' defines a form of political power that bypasses elected politicians. It's practically anti-party politics.

Except it doesn't involve a business, it involves playing games with the operation of the Federal Government an the incomes of hundreds of thousands of people for the sole purpose of (your claim) making the opposition party look bad.

Is that really more like business leadership than party politics, or is that just some random insane shit you chose to say instead of having to take an honest look at your position?

If Q is some intelligence official, or network of officials within the government, what is that that would give him/her/them anymore ability to predict the Senate Election race than any other political pundit?

Unless you think they were involved in influencing it. 'Cos honestly, it sounds a lot like you think that Q is a representative of the deep state involved in rigging the election.

A non-binding vote, yes. And also a vote that was essentially taken blind, with many supporters of Brexit having a very idealistic view of what our relationship with the EU would be.

Now our government has had 2 years to negotiate the best possible exit deal with the EU, and everbody hates it. Almost all Brexit supporters hate it, and all EU supporters hate it. Even Parliament hates it, and are almost guaranteed to reject it. If that happens, the alternative is a no-deal Brexit, which (I believe) only the most ardent Brexit suporters would want to inflict in the nation.

So, now we know what the options are, that we either have a deal no-one likes or a no-deal that no-one expected, why would we not want to hold another vote that everyone goes into with their eyes open, before we take a final irreversible step?

But for completely different reasons. Britain has boxed itself into a corner. There is no good answer for her. Cameron's folly is to blame.

What I cannot fathom is why May is so adamant about not having a 2nd referendum. Hell, I heard one of the biggest Brexit advocates admitting that the claims of it making hundreds of millions of pounds available to the NHS was a load of bunk, one day after the Brexit vote!

It seems to me that now the truth of Brexit consequences is well-known, a 2nd referendum would reject it, and the whole crisis would be over.
