PBS Frontline: "The Facebook Dilemma"

Recommended Posts

Two one-hour episodes, both available to stream online: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/facebook-dilemma/

Topic is how FB has been weaponized to sow division and violence in Ukraine, Myanmar, Philippines, and US. And how it has collected (and leaked) personal information.

My only concern with Facebook is their slogan:

"Bringing the World Closer Together."

As long as they make billions,...

Seriously the issue with the slogan is that so many dolts just unquestioningly accept that kind of nebulous statement as a good thing. You really gotta ask if in fact that motto is a good thing or not?

It reminds me of a funeral Parlor I visited recently: "We take care of you."

Why do slogans from for profit companies get away with so much of the public just accepting what they see as a good thing. Seriously, no one questions the meaning or consequences of this Facebook model?

That's my point,....no one thinks anymore.

And how many of you out there have more than one "friend" from another country?

Facebook was started to gather information. That's their business. Or is it? The power of advertising, and most of you out there don't even realize how your being manipulated.
Brett Bickford Did Not Commit Suicide.

He is the victim of ignorance and faulty gear. AND as in the movie: "12 Angry Men," of an ignorant and callous jury.

Eh, everyone does it - and everyone knows it.

Is iFly really "the dream of flight?" Can you "really fly?" Or do they just use a big blower to push you a few feet off a net, inside a glass jar?

Is doing a tandem at Eloy really the "experience of a lifetime?" People might do cooler things.

I don't think you will see too many people from either place yelling to get their slogans changed.

I look at the whole internet and I think to myself:

Dunno who said it, but it goes something like:

If someone came through time to today from the 50s, what would they find more amazing-

That I have in my pocket a device that lets me communicate with most of the world and access almost every piece of information known to man?

Or that I use it mainly to argue with strangers and look at cute pictures of cats?
