The Christian values Thread

Rufus: His only real beef with mankind is the shit that gets carried out in His name. Wars, bigotry, televangelism. The big one, though, is the fractioning of all of the religions. He said mankind got it all wrong by taking a good idea and building a belief structure on it.

Bethany: You’re saying having beliefs is a bad thing?

Rufus: I just think it’s better to have ideas. I mean, you can change an idea, changing a belief is trickier. People die for it, people kill for it. The whole of existence is in jeopardy right now, because of the Catholic belief structure regarding this plenary indulgence bullshit. Bartleby and Loki, whether they know it or not, are exploiting that belief. And if they’re successful, you, me… ALL of this ends in a heartbeat, all over a belief.

God will stop Satan in His time. He gave us free will to choose Him. Through Jesus the Christ He gave us a path to experience Him, now and for all eternity.

Do you honestly not realize how utterly absurd this sounds to a rational person?

Not my concern. A spiritual life is not based on secular rationalism.

I have thought about this thread since the OP and believed a response was appropriate. The reason is that I see the premise of the OP as false. The main point was Christian values are misplaced. I disagree because Christian values are more personal and individual than social. Oddly enough, a divine manifestation maybe, an article in Zion's Fire magazine, a division of Zion's Hope Ministry, appeared in the current issue to address this subject. Therefore I shall borrow heavily from the author David Ettinger in my response.

First, we are involved in a culture war. It is a war between us and them. “Us” is defined as God, His Son Jesus Christ and His Holy Word, the Bible. “Them” refers to Satan, the Prince of Power of this world and his demonic spiritual minions. To the Christian, culture is the world system orderd, lorded over and controlled by Satan.

Christian values are expressed in terms of how we should conduct ourselves as individuals not participation is Satan's world system.
1. Do not conform. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
2. Be aware. Spiritually feed yourself on all things good and pure. Read your Bible daily.
3. Be compassionate. Never consider anyone unworthy of hearing the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Christians are in this world but not part of it. We are not to surrender to Satan's cultural rules. We are to stand against them. We are a “chosen generation, a peculiar people.” The world naturally hates us because of what we believe, that is our faith in Christ.

Funny. Replace "Christ" with "Mohammed" and you have a perfect rationalization for religious terrorism against the Great Satan.

And the richest showing modesty which is one of the virtues of Christianity.

"Since modesty is a part of an individual’s personality, his/her personal being, it is a virtue. If it is consistently expressed in one’s style of dress and behavior, it can bring significant benefits to an individual. It can strengthen or add other associated virtues to a modest person’s reputation or character. It can reinforce one’s reputation for humility and respectful behavior. When a person demonstrates a high level of personal self-respect by his/her modest way of dressing and behaving, he/she will probably also earn a high level of respect from others. Most of you know one or more examples of individuals who have lost all or most of anyone’s personal respect by their immodest styles of dress or behavior."

Ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake -- the entire world is being convulsed by a religious struggle. The fight is not about money or territory; it is not about poverty versus wealth; it is not about ancient customs versus modernity. No. The struggle is whether Hubal, the Moon God of Mecca, known as Allah, is supreme, or whether the Judeo-Christian Jehovah God of the Bible is Supreme.

Netanyahu: Evangelical Christians are Israel’s best friends
“It’s a struggle of civilizations. It’s a struggle of free societies against the forces of militant Islam,” Netanyahu argued. “They want to conquer the Middle East, they want to destroy the State of Israel, and then they want to conquer the world.”
https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-evangelical-christians-are-israels-best-friends/

"most American evangelicals have a simpler justification for their view: the Bible.

“Israel and her right to the land is a key theme in the Hebrew Scripture,” said Darrell Bock, a senior research professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. “It is tied to divine promises many Christians believe are still in force.”

A 2013 survey by Pew Research found that 82 percent of white evangelical Christians believe God gave Israel to the Jews. By contrast, only 40 percent of Jews in the United States believed that.

In recent months, as Trump’s polling numbers have declined, white evangelical Christians, who make up about a quarter of the electorate, have become the only sizable segment of voters who continue to support him strongly. A Fox News poll in October showed 66 percent of white evangelicals supporting Trump. While that figure was down from 77 percent in September, it was still nearly 30 percentage points higher than the population as a whole.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/trump-jerusalem-evangelicals_us_5a284e66e4b03ece02ffcb15

Well at least Jared Kushner can clear his desk of his heavy schedule involving Middle east peace:
Donald Trump Blows Up Jared Kushner’s “Ultimate Deal”
A move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is expected to set off riots across the Middle East—and threaten any momentum toward a two-state solution.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/12/donald-trump-jared-kushners-jerusalem-israel-palestine

Now he can concentrate on his poor memory about Russian events:
"A 'serious case of amnesia': House Intel Democrat says Trump Jr. was 'pretty non-responsive' in 8-hour interview...

"My takeaway is he has a very serious case of amnesia," Rep. Jackie Speier told CNN on Wednesday just after the lengthy interview ended.

"He was pretty non-responsive on a lot of issues that, frankly, you would have a recollection of, considering it was just a year ago that many of these events took place when Donald Trump was the candidate," Speier said. "He was by his father’s side; he was campaigning with his father. And you get the impression in listening to him that he didn’t spend much time talking to his father."

Swalwell agreed with Speier's characterization of Trump Jr.'s testimony as evasive and somewhat unhelpful, and said the Democrats plan to present the Republicans with legal arguments for why attorney-client privilege "doesn't apply" just because — as Trump Jr. asserted — lawyers were present for the conversations in question.

I totally agree. All of the Christians I know and associate with, that is friends and family, agree. That is the main reason we want strong vetting policies for immigrants, especially focusing on the Muslims. All Muslims are united the same as all Christians are united at some basic fundamental level. If push comes to shove, Shari Law vs. Constitutional Law, moderate Muslims will become militant Muslims. As Christians we do not want to encourage that devastating conflict on our own soil. Just remember Christians may proselytize for converts but Muslims will kill for converts.

I like Netanyahu and Israel. But what he and trump both understand is what buttons to push.

Netanyahu and Israeli politics is all about appealing to a narrow base. Because there are so many parties in Israel and so many coalition governments. Thats the same reason why trump professes to be a Christian. He can identify that base and knows what buttons to push. His personal actions preclude him from being a Christian.

Protestants are more likely than Muslims to think their religion should be the main source of law in America

One of the most common accusations about Muslims from Islamophobes is that they want to institute Sharia, or Islamic law, here in America.

But the overwhelming majority of American Muslims do not think Islam should be the main source of US law, and more than half (55 percent) said their religion should not be a source of American law at all.

Meanwhile, it turns out that more Protestants (12 percent) actually believe their own religion should be the main source of American law than do Muslims (10 percent):

What that poll shows and the ones that I quoted. Is that for Muslims and those who believe in another god. As education increases adherence to the Koran and the bible(or other similar treatise) decreases. As does the propensity to believe in a religion. In addition, adherence to "Sharia law" or an interpretation of Christian law, vr a secular view of the laws and norms of the resident country.

Certainly they collectively show that for every poorly educated Christian who sends his donation off to a TV evangelist. There is a Muslim in Pakistan or Afghanistan, likely donating his last rupee to a Mullah.

This shit of this is that Christians are defending how great they are as we're hearing a Supreme Court Case over someone who is using the bible to defend his own bigotry.

When will you Christians get it that things in the bible are not literal. Homosexuality is not an abomination, shellfish are not an abomination, pigs are not an abomination. So far we know you understand 2 out of 3 of those beliefs are archaic superstitions from the past, one more to go and we'll welcome you to the modern day.

We all know that Jesus was of the Tribe of Judah and therefore Jewish. He was the God in the flesh, and incarnation from the Holy Spirit. Christianity did not come into existence until the Holy Spirit fell on the 120 in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost, which was fifty days after the resurrection.

We all know that.

The Biggest Loser in the Alabama Election

No matter the outcome of today’s special election in Alabama for a coveted US Senate seat, there is already one loser: Christian faith. When it comes to either matters of life and death or personal commitments of the human heart, no one will believe a word we say, perhaps for a generation. Christianity’s integrity is severely tarnished.

The race between Republican candidate Roy Moore and Democratic candidate Doug Jones has only put an exclamation point on a problem that has been festering for a year and a half—ever since a core of strident conservative Christians began to cheer for Donald Trump without qualification and a chorus of other believers decried that support as immoral. The Christian leaders who have excused, ignored, or justified his unscrupulous behavior and his indecent rhetoric have only given credence to their critics who accuse them of hypocrisy. Meanwhile the easy willingness of moderate and progressive Christians to cast aspersions on their conservative brothers and sisters has made many wonder about our claim that Jesus Christ can bring diverse people together as no other can...

Resisting the Temptations of Political Life

What events of the last year and a half have shown once again is that when Christians immerse themselves in politics as Christians, for what they determine are Christian causes, touting their version of biblical morality in the public square—they will sooner or later (and often sooner) begin to compromise the very principles they champion and do so to such a degree that it blemishes the very faith they are most anxious to promote.

Has Support for Moore Stained Evangelicals? Some Are Worried

The bloc that has marched under the banner of the “Moral Majority” and “values voters” has now been tagged as the most reliable base of support for both Mr. Moore and President Trump, two politicians who are known for fanning racial and religious prejudices and who stand accused of sexual harassment by numerous women — accusations that each man denies. White evangelicals across the country delivered 81 percent of their votes to Mr. Trump last year, according to exit poll data, and backed Mr. Moore in Alabama by the same proportion on Tuesday...

That notion is bewildering to evangelical leaders who see Mr. Trump as their champion. They say that Mr. Trump has given them more access than any president in recent memory, and has done more to advance their agenda, by appointing judges who are likely to rule against abortion and gay rights; by channeling government funds to private religious schools; by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel; and by calling for the elimination of the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits churches and charitable groups from endorsing political candidates.

“I believe that God answered our prayers in a way we didn’t expect, for a person we didn’t even necessarily like,” said Stephen E. Strang, author of “God and Donald Trump” and founder of Charisma Media, a Christian publishing house...

“It’s counterproductive to identify as evangelical,” he said. “What’s happened with evangelicalism is, it has become so conflated with Republican politics, that you can’t tell where Christianity ends and partisanship begins.”..

“We’ve let evil overtake the entire reputation of Evangelicalism,” one prominent evangelical author, Beth Moore, wrote on Twitter the day before the election. “The lust for power is nauseating. Racism, appalling. The arrogance, terrifying. The misogyny so far from Christlikeness, it can’t be Christianity.”...

I disagree, a Christian's faith is in no way affected by any political event or social phenomena. It only appears that way to the outsiders attempting to look in.

Christian faith is personal and strengthened by the Word, our testimonies and the shed blood of Christ.

I think he meant the reputation and credibility of the christian faith industry (and individual right-wing christians like yourself). Which is long overdue a reckoning, tbh.
