Fox News is a "Propaganda Machine"

Recommended Posts

gowlerk

I don't actually watch TV at all. But I look at the CNN website a lot. It's pretty rare lately that the top story is not something about Trump. Big stories can push him from the top for a couple hours once in a while. But not for long. CNN is definitely in the business of going after Trump. …

I'm not fan of CNN, but let's be fair. Even if they are showing a variety of national news stories, a significant portion of them will involve Trump. There's the Mueller investigation, an unapologetic porn star who may well beat Mueller to the punch with providing incontrovertible evidence of an impeachable offense. And now a former playmate is suing him for similar reasons. And he can't keep staff. Or stay out of Twitter fights. And that's all on top of his official duties, which can generally be expected to account for a story or two of the news cycle in any administration.

I really despise both CNN and Fox, and much of the media. I feel these networks have devolved into nothing more than feeding the confirmation bias of the target audience they are after.

If you are CNN that target audience leans left and Fox it leans right. It is perfectly symmetrical.

CNN is infotainment. They are often accurate, but will usually go for the starlet sex scandal over the budget talks. Their reporting is shoddy and superficial at best - but tends to be accurate at a 10,000 foot level.

FOX is propaganda.
They are a bought and paid for arm of the GOP. Their reporting always favors the politically correct spin over and above the facts. (That's why FOX viewers have the greatest number of misconceptions concerning current events.)

Want to watch car crashes and stories about popular movies? CNN is great. Want to see what the GOP's talking points are? FOX is your source. Want news? Reuters, BBC, AP, AFP and NPR are all good sources there.

This is an offshoot of a conversation we had about a month ago regarding One America News. It's not called news anymore, Bill. Now. they call it "opinion programming."

Per that discussion; I removed all cable from Uverse and now only use the internet connection and rely on Google newsfeeds. The plus side is saving ~$200.00/month for just internet.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Fact-checking Fox, MSNBC and CNN: PunditFact's network scorecards

Each of the news networks that we routinely follow -- ABC, CBS, Fox, MSNBC and CNN -- has a scorecard that breaks down that network’s performance on the Truth-O-Meter. The scorecard tallies each statement we fact-check on that network and groups the rulings by percentage....

Right now, you can look at the MSNBC file, which also includes NBC, and see how that network’s pundits and on-air talent stand. For instance, currently 45 percent of the claims we’ve checked from NBC and MSNBC pundits and on-air personalities have been rated Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire.

At Fox and Fox News Channel, that same number is now 58 percent. At CNN, it’s 22 percent.

The comparisons are interesting, but be cautious about using them to draw broad conclusions. We use our news judgment to pick the facts we’re going to check, so we certainly don’t fact-check everything. And we don’t fact-check the five network groups evenly. CBS, for instance, doesn’t have a cable network equivalent, so we haven’t fact-checked pundits and CBS personalities as much.

CNN is despised by trump supporters because it uses a low operating cost news format. That means it has Atlanta, NY and Washington offices with lots of journalists. But none anywhere else. No operating system is cheaper for a news service than having one journalist interview another. Its focus for the last year is domestic politics. Focus trump.

trump is therefore 24/7 with the odd break. BBC is the sole remaining objective news service with worldwide coverage. i.e. journalists and offices over most of the world. The only other comparable news gathering organizations are the NY Times, Bloomberg and possibly Reuters. But Reuters operates as more as a delivery franchise for independents.

For the posters that equate CNN with FOX I would just point out that FOX is proven to lie about the news. Lie about facts. Two point six three times as much as FOX. According to the above story. There are other news fact checking studies that have come to that exact same conclusion. Including the chart in this thread. Lies designed to project ideology.

As such the title of this thread is entirely appropriate. Where CNN goes off the tracks is the salacious coverage of trump's sexcapades. Pandering to the baser instincts of car chases, etc. A full days coverage of some small political intricacy of WH misstep. IMO is where CNN grates the craw of some possible viewers.

No, it isn't symmetrical. Despite both being substandard, CNN is both less biased and more reasonable in their interpretations of the news, compared to FOXNews.

That's the funniest damn claim I've seen in decades!

Its always amusing to hear trumpateers to rail against CNN because the relentless coverage they offer of trump. Unprotected sex with porn stars and playmates. Payoffs and pandering by trump supporters.

Well trump needed another distraction from the playmate expose' this week so last night it was transgender military personnel.

When the Mueller firing or indictments come down. It will be a war with Iran.

"MSNBC host Joe Scarborough mocked President Trump on Friday night after the White House announced that the administration would move to ban most transgender people from serving in the military.

The "Morning Joe" co-host sent a tweet accusing Trump of issuing the decision in an attempt to distract from the massive spending bill he reluctantly signed Friday and an upcoming "60 Minutes" interview with adult-film star Stormy Daniels."

Fox News is running the country
Trump is known to be a frequent viewer of the network, particularly “Fox & Friends,” and often tweets in response to what the show’s hosts have been discussing.

Did you have a problem with CNN when we found out they ran their stories through the Obama Administration before they would post them up? Or when they gave Hillary Clinton the debate questions prior to the debate?

You never cease to disappoint or fail to reveal bias.

What really bugs me are the people who instantly respond with "well, if you didn't get your news from Fox" anytime you disagree with them.***
Or CNN.

These people haven't listened to what you had to say.

*** I've accumulated maybe an hour of Fox while stuck in waiting rooms, but say something they don't like and that's the instant assumption.***

These people haven't thought about what you had to say.

***The other one that I hate is people who think that since i'm past 60 I must like country music.

There is no country music anymore. Just homogenized crap that somebody with a rural accent puts on the radio.
