The hate is overflowing

Recommended Posts

The Daily Show (are we still allowed to reference that show in a positive light?) had a great segment on poor bastards who have the same name as other more well known people. Or maybe not even the same name, but what the heck, you've got to vent all that hatred on someone, eh? Oh, and it's a bipartisan screw up.

Somewhat off topic but, I think it is related to the current zeitgeist.

The following from Glenn Beck:

Quote

Listen to this quote from Zuckerberg a few months ago where he lays out Facebook's focus areas for 2018:

We feel a responsibility to make sure our services aren't just fun to use, but also good for people's well-being. So we've studied this trend carefully by looking at the academic research and doing our own research with leading experts at universities.

It's the same with progressives in Washington as it is with progressives in silicon valley. They feel that you're too stupid to be able to make your own decisions. You're too stupid to be able to pick the type of content that you feel is important to you. You're too much of an idiot to decipher fake news from real news. So Facebook is trying to be the gatekeepers - you know - so you don't hurt yourself.

Ron, while I too think Facebook is a "shit pit". Your post of the stock price is conflating two unrelated issues and events.

I'd advise you to give economics and finance a miss and stick to Jesus-related topics.

Check the definition of the zeitgeist.

Zeitgeist is German, I know its meaning. So, what does your current zeitgeist mean?

Check the definition of the zeitgeist.

Love it.

RMK: Your post makes no sense and shows you don't understand the issues being discussed.

Ron: But I used a fancy word, look at the fancy word!

Genius.

The spirit of the age, according to Fritz Perls.

The thread is entitled "The hate is overflowing". But its Ron, so could be anyone's guess.

I am somewhat taken aback by the lack of understanding to my post.

The OP addressed the overflow of hate. Thus I responded with another example of this overflow.

The current zeitgeist in America is that more and more people are becoming fed up with progressive liberal BS that claims the intellectual elite know what is best for us all. We are angry with the fact that our personal information is collected, analyzed and then used against us.

That disgust has revealed itself in the rebellion toward FB.

The fall in the stock price is the manifestation of this disgust. FB may rebound, after all, it is the stock market.

Keep in mind that many are not using social media, not responding to poll inquiries and the like. We share information with each other utilizing old fashion methods of communication.

Yes, the hate is there and it is flowing both to right as well as to the left.

The retreat in Facebook stock price is more related to the lack of privacy information controls. Combined with the dissemination of user data to third parties for commercial purpose. This has resulted in reduced use.

Yes the hate is rising from both sides. As trump doubles down to maintain his base support. Both sides of the political equation become motivated.

In many countries this is a recipe for violence.

Actually, I think the most current zeitgeist is a feeling that a puppet for a foreign power is running the country - and there's a lot of anger that his party doesn't care. There's been a strong blowback against bothsiderism and whataboutism; two memes that have been used to justify everything from ripping families apart to paying porn stars to stay quiet over their affairs with politicians.

>That disgust has revealed itself in the rebellion toward FB.

That's not disgust. That's progress.

The reason horse-and-buggy stables fell out of fashion (and went out of business) was not due to disgust at the whole agrarian way of life. It was because cars became popular.

Talk to any teens. Most of them don't use Facebook - they use Instagram or Snapchat. Facebook has had its time, and is now becoming the online media used by grandparents.

Yes. There are communication methods favored by every age demographic.

I think this is overstated right now. Look at the latest quarterlies. Facebook is not "done" yet. (Much as I would like it to be so.)

The company will most likely recover their value eventually. However, they're unlikely to ever again be the preferred social media platform, particularly among young people.

And while Facebook it the company name connected to most of the stuff that's upsetting people most of them realize that it's part of the territory.
