wolfriverjoe 1,340 #27 February 6, 2018 BillyVance And funny thing, Saban, being a former Belichick asst coach back in the day, since he took over at Alabama, has won 5 national titles, but Belichick has never won in the same year as Nick. Some interesting facts (I haven't checked them, so it could be wrong): Belichick has never won a Superbowl the same year that Saban won a National title. The Patriots have lost every Superbowl that they won the coin toss in. They won it this year. The league MVP hasn't won the Superbowl since 1999. Brady won MVP. The league leader in passing yards has never won the Superbowl. Brady was that leader this year. For those that believe in these sorts of things, superstitions, omens, predictors or whatever you wish to call them, the Patriots were doomed from the start. BillyVance 34 #30 February 6, 2018 muff528 Think it was a Gator who threw that touchdown pass to Foles. It sure was. Even funnier when Brady tried the same thing and couldn't catch the pass. BillyVance 34 #31 February 6, 2018 normiss Is this where we have the discussion about how messed up college playoffs are and that Bama shouldn't have even been there this year??? Bama proved they belonged. No way they get left out to Ohio State's benefit when the Buckeyes lost 55-24 to an Iowa team that finished 7-5. That was the Buckeyes' second 31 point loss in less than a calendar year as well. You won't ever see a Saban-led Bama team lose by 31. They never have. Largest loss has been 14 points, on at least 3 occasions. People can cry foul all they want, but the committee looks at the overall body of work and game control, as well as strength of schedule. It's funny though... the playoffs idea was pushed after the 2011 season when Alabama and LSU faced off for the national championship, despite crybaby Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy argument that his team should have been in. Well, his team shouldn't have lost to a bad Iowa State team that year. All Bama has done is make all four playoffs, come within a second of three straight national championships and have been national contenders for all but three regular season games (all in 2010), since 2008. So yeah, Bama fatigue nationwide is real. I'm enjoying it while it lasts. BillyVance 34 #34 February 7, 2018 normiss Cowboys, Cheatriots, Bama fans. Sames. Bama didn't win their division. That's not how playoffs should work. Sometimes the best teams don't win their division. Bama got in based on their total body of work. Sorry. Sure, the playoff committee prefers a conference champion, but it's not a requirement. They just couldn't put in a two loss champion over a one loss Alabama team that had been ranked #1 for pretty much all of the past two years. The goal is to get the four best teams in. I think they did a good job of that this year. Besides, nobody was gonna beat Auburn at Jordan Hare last November. Too bad they left their mojo on the field after beating #1 Georgia and then #1 Alabama. Had a playoff spot ready for them if they'd won the SEC title game but tanked that one, and then created a stupid ass controversy by letting an undefeated AAC champion beat them. And now we got these stupid ass UCF fans crowing that they're the national champions. Yeah, I'm sure I could name about 8-9 Power 5 schools that could have gone undefeated with UCF's weak ass schedule too... normiss 622 #35 February 7, 2018 All those variables are fun in a discussion, but not in playoff rankings. Again, that's not how playoffs work, except in college. It's more about the MONEY, and everybody gets a trophy. Makes it hard to like and watch playoffs that are rigged simply by choice and preference of who "gets in" and who is discarded. I get it, not everybody likes the system. It's always been that way. People didn't like the BCS system before the playoffs, and people didn't like the Bowl Coalition system before that, and before that, plenty of people griped about whoever was ranked number one at the end of the season, especially if you were the highest ranked team to win your bowl, and a lower ranked team jumped you to #1.
