Blind John

Sad to see this. His story telling about some of his blind jumps were top notch.

ETA: I might be thinking of the wrong blind skydiver... Dan Rossi was probably the prolific jump story teller...

Have to go all the way back to the rec.skydiving newsgroup days though

I'm glad the boogie happened in time. Go in peace.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Did he live just across the border in Oregon? I made a couple of Halloween 40-way jumps with him in Lodi back in the late 1980s. I remember those as epic weekends ;-)

He lived in Perscott just above Portland.

I had the privilege to jump with John several times.

Our team took 3rd place at a POPS meet based on his accuracy.

I watched a couple of his landings when his 'radio' was a little late on the flare.

He was one of the really tough guys who never complained, he will be sorely missed.

I jumped with him (and Mike Muscat) on Memorial Day Weekend in 2003.

Go easy, Blind John.

I jumped with Blind John and Pat Moorehead twice at Lodi probably 20 years ago. One of my most unforgettable parachuting moments. I used to love watching him walk up to the manifest with his red-tipped cane and ask for a jump ticket.

Legendary.
