Blue Skies DL

Recommended Posts

This post is for DL's family and friends.

Here are links to footage of DL enjoying what he loved to do at the 2007 Good Vibes Boogie.

DL is in the following clips in some form or fashion so if you don't see him at the very beginning of a clip just keep watching it.

I just edited & compiled the footage. Noah Bahnson was the videographer who shot it.

Hey Everyone,

Val seems to be doing as well as can be expected. She is surrounded by many friends and family and wanted everyone to know the following schedule for DL's services.

DL's Viewing will be held:

Wednesday, July 23rd
5pm - 7pm @
Bauldwin
5000 County Road 46A
Sanford, FL 32771

the service will be held Thursday, July 24th
10am @
The Church of Christ
1500 Park Ave
Sanford, FL 32773

DL will be wearing one of his Freefly suits and many folks attending will be doing the same. Also, there will be a reception at the Lambert's household following the ceremony on Thursday.

If anyone needs a ride or picked up from the airport or a place to stay, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will assist in any way I can. I look forward to being with you all and celebrating DL's life.

Damnit DL. ya know, I've been staring at this thread since it was posted, every time I thought about what to write, I just couldn't find the words, and as I sit and write this post, I still don't what the hell to write. You and I had our differences, hell, we had our arguements in the packing hanger on more than one occasion, but I always was glad to see you at the dz and other events. We talked alot, about the sport, about our kids and about life in general. You are going to be missed Dave. If nothing else your death just reafirmed my decision to stop skydiving. Val, your family and your children will all be in my prayers. Goodbye my friend fly in peace.

I really don't know what to say other than this just plain sucks. Here's a picture of Dave and Valerie for anyone who is having trouble putting a name with a face.

Please keep Valerie in your thoughts and prayers.

DL, you will be forever missed.

DL was one of the first people that I met when I first started jumping at Sebastian this past year. I remember thinking how friendly he was, just an overall nice guy and how I had never found that at ANY dropzone I had ever been too. Well that is the overall attitude of everyone at Sebastian, and his smiling, friendly face will definitly be missed. Blue Skies!

I met DL just half a year ago but from the first day, he made me his friend, Im really happy for that and that I got to spend time with him at six flag Atlanta, Crazy day for us, California and his last jump here on earth, I will never forget what a great person he was.

Liquid blue skies for you DL.

I spent yesterday going through the 2007 Good Vibes videos that I linked to in my first post above and pictures from the 2007 Mexican Revolution Day boogie last November. I edited them and compiled them into one video. Background music is a bluesy instrumental piece called "Little Wing" from the "Sky Is Crying" LP by Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched the video since I put it together yesterday. I just watch it and I'm stunned by the fact that DL is gone, and then I watch it again.

Blue Skies everyone, please be safe, and let's look out for one another.

Clark

Near the end of the Hog Flop last year, one of his friends came up to him and us others standing around and said, "I can't find my rig, I thought I packed it already but it's not there!!! Have any of you seen it lately?"

We all shook are heads and he went off to look elsewhere for it.

Once he was a little ways away DL said, "I was loading up and I noticed that he left his door open and his rig on the seat so I secured it with my stuff. I won't let him sweat too long..."

We all laughed and when his friend came back he told him the whole story. He thought it was kinda funny too. :)

I didn't know DL very well, but in many ways he has been a big part of my life as a skydiver. I jump at CSS in North Carolina, and when I had about 60 jumps and 3 months in the sport, I made my first trip to Florida (this was September 2006). While there, a group of jumpers from CSS spent one day at Skydive Space Center, where I first met DL and Val. Not only was he extremely warm and welcoming, but he invited us "strangers" on almost every load, and ended up taking and briefing me for my very first hybrid and my first tracking dive.

Flash forward to New Years 2007-2008, and I ran into DL for the second time at Sebastian. He was the only local jumper to really stick his neck out and go out of his way to jump with a group of us from CSS (especially on such a busy weekend). Yet again, he showed himself as one of the warmest, most welcoming people I've met in this sport.

And sadly, when I received the text today that he had passed, although I did not know him well, I knew that the sport had lost one of its greats. I know that I am but one of a great number of people who are mourning right now, and to his family, friends and everyone else he's touched...my heart goes out to you. I just feel blessed that I ever had the opportunity to meet a spirit like his. BSBD

I am very grateful that I had a chance to know DL. I am grateful that he got a chance to come up to Atlanta before he had to go. I am grateful that I can call him my friend. Peace brother. Glad i had a chance to jump with you last week.

We'll miss ya,
Tyler

I was fortunate enough to meet DL a little over 2 years ago while doing swoop training out in Colorado with Marianne Kramer. He didn't know me from "Adam" yet was super supportive. Then I started seeing that bright smiling face all over the place and it was always a good time. It was nice to find someone with such a happy go lucky attitude in this tough world we live in. When he made Sebastian his "some" and then I heard he was getting married, I was overjoyed because good people like DL deserve every happiness.

Val, you are in my thoughts and prayers....as is everyone who's lives were touched by DL, you are all in my thoughts. DL my friend, I will see you again one day, and we WILL play in the clouds, together. Until then.....

Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
