North Korea

>So North Korea probably has a working thermonuclear bomb.

Unlikely. They probably have figured out fission boosting for their conventional implosion bombs, which would significantly increase their yield - but isn't really thermonuclear (the fusion in a fission-boosted bomb adds less than 1% to the yield)

Not that that matters too much; what matters is that they've significantly increased yield with a relatively small weapon.

>Let's say they get everything they want out of thir development programme - a small
>enough warhead to fir on a reliable missile with a large yield. Then what?

Then he gets more respect. Several countries (the US specifically) have a tendency to respect countries that have credible nuclear arsenals.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said pursuing further sanctions against North Korea is "useless", saying "they'd rather eat grass than give up their nuclear programme".

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41158281

Well Putin is right about that and if there is a large factor in the N. Korea nuclear weapons program. Its that sanctions have not worked.

Trump has just explained why North Korea has nuclear weapons - Hillary Clinton and Obama did it.

Trump: "It is the height of hypocrisy. Obama and Clinton in effect gave nuclear weapons to North Korea . . ."

I'm just surprised it took as long as it did.

Not only that, but why wasn't Obama in the Oval Office on 9/11? Playing golf, I expect, instead of taking care of business.

The whole Korean debacle is the fault of weak kneed Democrat party presidents not standing up like men. Mostly Truman. Who accepted the division of the peninsula in the first place. And then failed to nuke China and Russia when they supported the North's invasion of the South.

By the time Eisenhower took over it was too late. Russia had the bomb too.

On a side note, the NKs are tough as hell. The USAF dropped enough bombs on them to destroy about 85% of their existing buildings. The death toll was enormous. And they have not forgotten. Not even a little.

Perhaps a little more complex than that, as the North invaded the South Jun 25, 1950. The USSR exploded a nuke 10 months earlier - August 29, 1949.

No worries. We can always move the blame needle to JFK. If he hadn't wussed out during the Bay of Pigs, then the USSR would no longer exist.

Double the reason to take Stalin's forces out. They were still early in the program. Support of the NK invasion would have provided a perfect reason for a pre-emptive strike. Opportunity squandered just like Billy boy did when he could have taken out the middle Kim. And don't get me started on BHO's missed chances. All the time crowing about getting Bin Laden while NK was enriching uranium.

Here is a story quoting the NK foreign minister stating that he feels sorry for Trump's aides after his recent UN speech. The world is standing on it's head. He is making more sense than the POTUS. Beyond sad.

Although I do disagree with the "barking dog" comparison. Trump sounds more like a braying donkey.

Yeah, womanizing. One more thing than Billy boy could give the Dotard lessons on!

It is a weird world where the messaging out of North Korea is almost more sane than the messaging from the President of the United States.

Almost?

Given that Trump has reneged, or stated that he plans to renege, on the Paris agreement, the Iran deal, TPP, NAFTA, etc., why would any rational head of state believe that a diplomatic solution signed by Trump would be honored?

Well, the "Twit in Chief" made a statement that the DPRK "won't be around much longer" and so their FM called it a Declaration of War.

So, of course, his minions have to walk it back some.

Is this idiot ever going to learn to keep his mouth shut and his ego in check?

I kinda doubt it. He's had 70 years to learn the behavior, he won't unlearn it quickly or easily.
