We just finished viewing Season 5. IMO, even though it is fiction, it portrays an accurate presentation of the Democratic Party in Washington politics. I believe the Clintons were the main character studies. This last season introduced some of the Trump scenarios but as a Democrat not a Republican. And, BTW, the Republicans are shown as weak and ineffectual.

Your confirmation bias is showing.

The entire message of the show is it could apply to virtually anyone in DC.

Spoiler alert

I stopped after Kevin Spacey made out with the SS guy. Call me what you like but I really am not interested in seeing that.

Interesting fact, Spacey's wife on the show is none other than "Jenny" of Forrest Gump fame.

That was the point.

No, Ron. You specifically said, "it portrays an accurate presentation of the Democratic Party in Washington politics."

That's at complete odds with the notion it applies to everyone.

You do realize that the books originally came out in 1989, right?

The scripts for the TV show are new, as are the later books, but the overall setup was done several years before Clinton came to national prominence.

Of course, you never miss a chance to take a shot at the "liberals".

And were about British politics :D

Anyway, while it was a little to obvious I think this was still one of Ron's best trolls. A- :)

I like going back and watching West Wing episodes. It's incredible what was taboo and political suicide just 12 years ago (really, just 2 years ago) compared to what is going on today. :|

What really gets to me is the Orwellian nature of the language. How Trump and his group has somehow managed to flip the use of words and phases so to my ears it's a remarkably easy comparison to make, yet to his followers war really is peace, slavery really is freedom, and we have always been at war with Eastasia.

People who absolutely worship (or claimed to) Reagan just a few years back, now adore Trump and his ties to Russia.

How any one Trump scandal would have easily been the end of any of his opponents, but yet there are dozens and dozens of them he is just conning his way out of.

It's as if the entire system has been taken over and about 35% of the country is okay with it. In fact, they think it's not just okay, but the way it ought to be.

I don't get it.

I do. A lot of the US has the football mentality - it's two teams, and the only thing that matters is that their team wins. Nothing else matters. Fights in the stands? No problems as long as the other guys get arrested. If your guys get arrested, it's police brutality. Cheating on the field? Again, no problem as long as the other team loses. What whining losers they are to bring up that technicality. Precious snowflakes can't handle losing. If your team loses - you were ROBBED! Unfair! The whole system is rigged.

And we've been playing into that mindset for years. Some people are no longer able to see shades of gray; everything is either white (Trump) or black (liberals.)

My take is that both sides are just spoiled rotten sissies who have things so good that they need to fight each other to get over the sheer boredom. America can only pull together in times of crisis. No crisis? No problem. You'll just make enemies of each other until a real enemy comes along.

It's the same reason that otherwise perfectly normal people skydive. Life is so easy, food and shelter are so plentiful that regular life is just too boring. Gotta have some stress and strife to keep ourselves balanced.

***It's just a work of fiction Ron. Like the Bible.

Bullshit! House of Cards is well written, cohesive, and of known authorship ;)

On the list of similarities though, it is an adaptation of stories which came before it.

. . .and you do realize that Beau Willimon - an aide to Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer and Dean Howard - was hired to write the adaptation for American politics in 2011, right?:D

Let me guess, the Clintons never once crossed your mind while watching the series, but I bet you noticed every allusion to Trump in Season 5. . .amirite?

You're right, things really aren't that bad here. Everyday, millions of liberals and conservatives work together in their daily lives and get along just fine. So obviously the issues discussed on the nightly news that we bicker about here on SC on a daily basis really aren't a priority in the grand scheme of things, yet we still allow that displaced anger to make some of the most important decisions for us in the voting booth - and in doing so, play right into the politicians' hands.

They aren't interested in uniting us. That's why every talking point and every bit of "newsworthy" legislation is divisive. It allows them to maintain power and a certain level of control over their constituents.

They are like the WWF. They go out in the spotlight to fight, collect a check and then go out for drinks after the show.

They have effectively designed a divisive system where they no longer serve us, but we serve them - or even worse, they serve themselves.

I'm afraid we just have to let it run it's course until it either gets too old, or too late. . .

That was a wonderful post; every word of it is true. And it's the most important thing to remember, that real life is more important than this.
Thanks for posting that.

This is why some gay people will always have a difficult time in society. I'm not interested in watching 2 men make out. I'm not wired that way. I didn't say I was shocked or offended. I said I wasn't interested. You seem to think that's some sort of character flaw. The real flaw is you attacking me because I'm not gay. :S

There is a difference between not being interested in something and refusing to watch the rest of a show because it had something in it you didn't agree with.

I don't particularly enjoy watching people get murdered by being thrown in front of a train, but that doesn't mean I don't watch the rest of the show.

Your disdain for a homosexual act is so strong that it doesn't allow you to watch the rest of a show. It is telling.
