pchapman 261 #2 April 3, 2017 Although the Canadian authorities chose not to speculate, the article notes: QuoteAn immigration lawyer told the paper that the spike in people turned away was probably in part because of the increased sharing of data and information, including criminal records, between Canada and the US. Also, to be precise, it isn't actually more Americans in terms of actual numbers, but the percentage change from 2015 to 2016 Unfortunately the article doesn't get at why things hadn't changed much at the US border. Perhaps the US systems were more strict and integrated already -- picking up people from the other country who have any sort of criminal record and denying them entry. It would also be interesting to see not just total numbers rejected but also what percentage that is of attempts to cross. Whatever the politics, it is good to see what's actually happening.
