Liberal Morality

I get the impression sometimes that you think political and/or religious differences turn people into something other than human beings; in other words, that ideological differences trump human similarities.

For the overwhelming majority of human beings, across the overwhelming situations and judgments, that's simply not true. What we have in common is way more important than what we don't.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, reading stuff in Speaker's Corner doesn't help. And not just Ron

This. Religion and morality are completely unrelated. So many immoral things have been done in the name of so many different religions that connecting the two is laughable.

The basic idea behind Christianity and all the Abrahamic religions is inherently evil. But that does not mean religious people can't act morally. Morality is like pornography. I can not define it, but I know it when I see it.

"I know it's true because I made it up myself" is a direct reference to this idea. And it is not just me. We each, on our own, decide on morality by ourselves. And none of us agree completely with anyone else.

Since I live in the fringe of modern society in a mountain Christian enclave I have reached an intellectual quandary.

With all this brouhaha over Trump's private conversational remarks, what is the politically correct, progressive/liberal definition of morality?

Maybe not a "what" but how about a "whom"?

Jimmy Carter. Truly a decent person. Also a liberal.

His decency was actually a huge handicap during his presidency because he believes that all people are inherently good, and trusted foreign leaders to actually do the good things that they said they'd do.
Khomeini in Iran is the most egregious example.

Since then, however, he has traveled the world. In every case, doing what he could to leave where ever he was a better place than when he arrived.

To imply that "liberals" have no morals is very similar to saying that "Everyone knows how black men are. I mean they brag about themselves and their booty calls and all."

Agreed.
Of all the presidents in my lifetime, Jimmy Carter is the one I would most like to have as a nextdoor neighbor.

I can't think of anyone that was a better ex-president.

I met him once, very early in his campaign. So early that he'd just got going. The Georgia Tech parachute club was jumping at the Americus, Georgia airshow, and Carter came around to see us, since he had attended Tech.

I voted against him when he won, and for him when he lost.

A much younger me would go to great lengths to find the owner. I actually had this happen once when I found a ladies wallet in a Kroger parking lot. I tried looking her up in the phone book and ended up driving to the condo building on the ID and ringing them from the door.

That's the right thing to do, and what I would want someone else to do for.

Quote

A much older me would be more inclined to just leave it. Its not my problem, it's a hassel, I dont want to be accuussed of piofering some of the cazh, etc. But I'm not a thief so I dont take the money.

Not as good as the first option, but morally defensible.

Quote

An in-between self-serving me might throw the ids away (assuming it had one) and turn it in to the police station and get a report. After 30 days if nobody claims it I get to keep the wallet.

That's not in-between at all. That's using the police station as an accomplice in your stealing the money. Taking the ID out of the wallet is not a morally defensible act.

Quote

None of these are really 'wrong' but the only one that is 'golden rule' is the first one.

No, the third one is straight up wrong.

Quote

Now, someone else may say its OK to take the cash if there's no identifier and give half to charity. Im not sure I really buy into that but I've heard that voiced before.

I suppose that's better than taking all the cash, but it's not as good as giving all the money to charity.

>what is the politically correct, progressive/liberal definition of morality?

The definition of morality is knowing right from wrong. Not just for conservatives or liberals, but for everyone.

The easiest way to see how moral someone is is to see how they act when there are no consequences (that they can see) for their behavior. How do they treat waitresses and servers? How do they talk when they think no one is listening? How do they treat others who are dependent on them, and thus can't really criticize them?

By that definition HRC falls short of Trump, in the morality department.

Oh for fucks sake. Trump Foundation vs. Clinton Foundation and yes, Haiti.

Trump in an elevator with a receptionist, Hillary in an elevator with a receptionist.

Bitch, please. You can say what you want about Hillary pissing people off for being an aggressive woman but don't for a second say that Trump has higher morality just because you think he wants to overturn Roe v Wade. He isn't overturning shit and said so in the debate.

Yes, I'm sure she grabbed many more pussies than Trump did.

And she calls Chelsea "A piece of ass", and cheats on her contractors.

Liberal morality is not disparaging or belittling the service of combat veterans while dodging said service.

Have a look at this ad in this article in case you're under the illusion that Republicans "support our troops" and honor veterans.

Both of them are vile, contemptible human beings. I am writing in Mickey Mouse, for pres. an voting straight Republican after that to put a check on HRC, (who will win btw).

It's a colloquialism. I'll say "Rigga, please" in the future to keep the lingo germane to the skydiving community.

He says it'll go back to the states. I'm not sure how he thinks it'll just automatically happen, you can't just overturn a previous ruling because there's a new SCJ onboard.

Anyway, moot point. He's not going to win. HRC will nominate a new one and RBG will resign and give her a second nomination.

Here I thought people spoke poorly of our current POTUS....she hasn't even adjusted the seats in the oval office yet.
:P

There is a deep meanness on the right. They can not be civil, it's against all Breitbart has taught them. They hate to lose and they are losing badly. The temper tantrums are just starting.
