It's the same type of unregulated capitalism that allows horse shit to be packaged as diet pills and miracle cures in the US. It's Trump University. It's an iphone package sold via ebay that contains nothing more than a lump of clay. It's VW selling "clean diesal" cars which lie to the EPA when they're tested. It's a faith healer conning a little old lady out of her retirement savings on the promise she'll get to heaven. It's the corner butcher with his thumb on the scales. It's the sub-contractor who uses below-spec materials on a construction site.

It's the concept of "buyer beware" that permeates almost every aspect of our lives.

The question you should be asking is why hasn't more of it been done?

I would say that he should be extradited to Iraq to face trial there as well after he's released from british prison, but he'd probably just bribe his way out.

So maybe he should just be dropped off in a Baghdad market square with a sign round his neck explaining who he is.

They'll only "work" if the people being tested believe that they work. Then the wands will deter suicide bombers from entering through that checkpoint, because the bombers will believe they'll be caught.

Sort of like how lie detectors only catch people who believe that the machine can actually tell if they're really lying.

All along it's really up to the skill of the machine operator to "read" the person being scanned, and their intent.
