Virginia schools fight back against Islamification

Recommended Posts

Hi Ken,

I'm just not sure what to make of this.

Oh, I'm very sure that you can.

I like this part: "Some of their parents saw the homework as an attempt to convert their children to Islam."

Reminds of my ex-wife, who taught 2nd grade. There was going to be some very simple/preliminary teaching on sex ed. A couple of parents called in & demanded that they stop this sex demonstration; they thought that the school was going to have an in-class go at it.

Molehill into mountain? Teapot tempest? I'm just not sure what to make of this.

One of the talking-heads on CNN this morning said, "This shows the underlying fear in America."

I would suggest a more appropriate assessment is that it shows the underlying ignorance in America (and parts of Canada too).

Suspect if you polled Dems you get similar results

It's like women signing petitions to end women's suffrage.

Or going into the street and asking simple questions like 'how many justices are on the supreme court'

I do think that if this article resonates with people, then those same people should not get their panties in a bunch when someone uses the term "Far left" to describe the fanatics on the other side. I have no issue with the term "ridiculous outlyers" to describe both groups and avoid terming either in terms of right or left at this point unless I'm specifically trying to wallow in a negative caricature I'm trying to extend to a larger group. (i.e., I wouldn't try to equate Lawrocket with Chuteless no more than I'd accuse Wendy of being a copy of Funjumper)

What I'd really like to see is what would happen if it was just Trump and 1 other GOP candidate. I'd like to know what resonates on the right when the fringies are skimmed off for Trump and the rest get to drive a candidate's positions... Actually, I'd like to see that from the Dems too.

A little piece with interesting poll numbers on what Trumpeters can be talked into believing. (Trumpeters? Did I just coin that use of the word? I've not seen it before, but I can't imagine it hasn't been used already somewhere.)

Well, 19%. But yeah, it's certainly not confined to the GOP.

As long as they are ridiculous outliers, agreed. But when more than 50% of voters in a party supports (for example) banning noncitizen Muslims from the US, it's hard to claim that they are "ridiculous outliers."

FFS! We have always been at war with Eastasia. As long as our people understand that, well, nothing can go wrong.

The fact that the news is portraying this as actual news?

Uh, no. None of those things that you are pointing at to minimize the story. The thing that amazes me is the fact that the school board closed all their schools down in reaction to the threat.

The media did not create the story, the media did not decide to close the schools. The media did not send threats to the teacher or the school. The media did not gather in the local church to protest.

Back in my day, when I went to school, my teachers taught us the 3 Rs. They also taught us a little history, some science and geography. Oh and we were allowed to burn off steam in gym class at least once a day and nobody was concerned about hurting little Johnny's feelings when John lost the game. Johnny had to learn that in life, you can't always get what you want. No in my day the teachers never tried to indoctrinate me into a Fabian Socialist ideology. They never tried to turn all those young and impressionable minds into politically correct, social justice warriors incapable of formulating independent thoughts. Oh how things have changed.

Oh BTW ... does your messiah know that the Baltic States are real yet? What a fucking "um" idiot he is. Your messiah is definitely not smarter than a 5th grader.

Emphasis mine. It's a bigger world now and it's important people learn more than just "a little." Understanding different cultures helps create a sense of "maybe we shouldn't just kill everyone we don't agree with" attitude.

A large part of the problem of the Middle East is some people there can have too narrow a view of the world. Let's not emulate that.

Stop it - clearly this thread isn't about the poor state of education in the country.

It's about ignoring the poor state of education on the left and chastising the poor state of education of the right.

If you can't take a universal problem and twist it politically, you don't belong on Speaker's Corner. Thanks Obama/Bush/handguns!!!

why? it's working for the global warming crowd, why stop there?

it's working for most all the social justice social network internet vigilante crowd - seems SOP

Just the other day I saw a great post from two different friends of the "Hey Washington Congresspeople - if you don't agree with (insert cause here) you just as well kill yourselves now" flavor

now that's a great idea (as long as 'narrow view' just doesn't equal "doesn't agree with me" for whoever is talking. sadly that's all it seems to mean when someone says it and you dig into it)

Sorry my bad.

I hate them all ... politicians that is ... there is only one POTUS candidate who makes any sense because he is the only one who questions the Fed and Saudi Arabia's role in all the crap coming out of the ME. But we know that Rand Paul does not have a hope in hell in winning. In fact I am amazed he has not been assassinated yet. I guess he knows there is only so much boat rocking he is permitted to do. No the puppet masters behind the curtain are too busy having fun with all the partisan BS when they know damn well it does not matter who wins the POTUS office. The puppet masters always have and always will have the final say.

The school chose to close with no actual threat. Its says that clearly in the article. Its also the last day of school before Christmas break so...

The teacher more than likely grabbed Arabic text off the internet probably without considering its meaning. Some drama queen mommy did what she does best, create drama. She went to her church and stood in front of a handful of people in her congregation and latched onto some ridiculous drama grasping at straws. There is no story here. Americans are not categorically stupid or ignorant because a news outlet finds 1 mad mommy and 1 student to go on camera.

If 1 mad mommy and 1 student going on camera, not making specific threats causes multiple schools to close.....well maybe ignorant isn't the right term, but it says something.
