It's interesting how the media likes to talk about the disproportionate numbers when it comes to cops killing blacks, but then ignore the disproportionate numbers when it comes to the amount of gun violence committed by blacks along with other crimes in general. The numbers are also disproportionate when it comes to domestic violence, rapes and murders of black women. To me, the latter is a more important issue so that we can finally address the problem of systemic racism in this country along with other issues that are contributing to the problem. We can continue to focus on how the white gun toting christian conservatives are all fucked up, but it's not going to change the relatively higher rates of violence in black neighborhoods while the overall trend of violence in this country has consistently been on the decline over the past 30 years or so. . . Well, the Sheriff's Deputy that was killed was accompanied at the scene by a CHP officer. It turns out Deputy Helus was shot 6 times. 5 times by the shooter, creating 'serious but survivable' injuries. The shot that killed him was a rifle bullet that pierced his heart*. Fired by the CHP officer. Of course, the cops only blame the shooter. The cop who accidentally shot and killed another cop will not face any charges. If a civilian in a similar situation accidentally shoots an innocent bystander, there will likely be a variety of charges. And lawsuits. * - For those not familiar with guns, ballistics and body armor; a rifle bullet has significantly more energy than a pistol bullet. The soft body armor worn by cops will stop pistol bullets, but not rifle bullets. I took a guess that the Parkland shooting would cost $100M and was summarily dismissed that the idea was stupid and over the top by a lot of pro-gun folks. this confirms that I am probably not far off the mark. It is no different that traffic accidents... society ends up paying for it one way or the other. Car accidents are mostly covered through insurance and through fuel taxes, But additional costs like lawsuits and courts eat away at the American taxpayer. 2nd amendment might get in the way of recouping the costs of gun violence from those that own and use guns.
