normiss 620 #2 September 19, 2015 You should see the incident that happened here in North Atlanta yesterday. Couple of guys being chased after some sort of gun running case. Crash into gas station, bail and run, gunfight ensues, veteran cop takes one in the shoulder, cop chopper took him to the hospital. He gonna be OK. Interestingly, nobody is asking who shot first. wolfriverjoe 1,340 #3 September 20, 2015 What's there to "armchair quarterback"? At first glance, opening fire from a helicopter in the air seems a bit sketchy. BUT... The people they were chasing were suspects in violent home invasions. They practice shooting from the air on a regular basis. Nobody else got hurt (outside of the collision after the "pursuee" driver bailed). Apparently this is the 7th "Shoot them from the air" incident. They've been doing it for a while. Presuming that they followed the use of force protocols, I don't have a problem with it. Presuming a competent pilot and reasonably smooth air, a helicopter can provide a pretty stable platform to shoot from. I'm going to guess that the department had to demonstrate a certain level of accuracy in practice before they took this out into the "real world.""There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." ryoder 1,381 #4 September 20, 2015 I can see one advantage in shooting from the air: When you are shooting downward, rounds that miss will probably just be embedded in the pavement, as opposed to rounds fired horizontally at ground level that continue on to hit bystanders in the distance."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. I'm thinking she needs to read up on the use of helicopters and weapons use since Vietnam. And, they didn't even have laser sights back then.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
