So if you compare the map found in the link above to the places that people have consistently voted against their own best economic interests in the name of smoke and mirrors social issues as dictated from the pulpits of their Sunday choices of pews to fill.

I think unemployment, disability, life expectancy, and obesity rates are pretty good measures for the "doing better or doing worse" picture they'd like to understand, but I think bachelors degrees and median household income might actually be inversely related to how difficult it is to live somewhere.

Think about what it means for someone at the federal poverty line ($24K for a family of four) to be living in a county with a median household income of $22K vs somewhere with a median household income of $42K.

Voting against one's interests. Selflessness is no longer a virtue.

Somehow I suspect selflessness has nothing to do with it, and ignorance of how you're being manipulated has a lot to do with it.

Oh, I agree. Kinda like the middle class and poor who have spent the last 85 years voting for progressive candidates who keep promising better lives while being ignorant at how the keep voting for the people destroying them. It happens on both sides so much it's ridiculous.

It is a crock of bullshit foisted on America by Neo Cons.. conning the uneducated in their base.

Right. The American educational system and academic achievement were awesome and incredible until Bush broke it.

I actually point to the downturn as being when the Federal Department of Education became cabinet level. No Child Left Behind and Common Core are but a continuation of federal involvement. You know, the feds trying to fix a problem and making it worse.
