Islam...the religion of peace?

I think you're simply referring to those of us that simply do not believe the book of fables and it offends you.

We ALL have differing beliefs.:P

I don't expect everybody to believe. I'm offended by the misrepresentations. There is plenty of blood and guts in the Bible to talk about without the need for embellishments and out right lies...

Agreed. It is not OK to tell an army to kill all the women and children - but leave the virgins alive "for yourselves." It is not OK to tell people to kill gays. It is not OK to tell people to kill all the nonbelievers. Those sentiments are not OK whether they are in the Bible or the Koran, and both are chock full of them.

>I examine it the same way that I do the Bible except it contains open ended
>statements and commands to murder.

A good example of a "command to murder" comes from Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man also lies with a man, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Not much wiggle room there.

Which is why we are fortunate that almost no one interprets either the Bible or the Koran literally.

>Suffice it to say that Bill's commentary was a gross misrepresentation of the story...

Just as Islamic scholars claim that people who say "the Koran calls for murder" are grossly misinterpreting it. However, the words say what they say.

But that still has nothing to do with the original argument I made. Your belief is your belief but we are talking about the differences in the books that many follow worldwide. Sorry miss :P you are vastly outnumbered there.

Except the words do not say what they say. Context and the actual words matter and the words are not English. The context of this verse is actually referring to practices of Canaan. It is really not about the homosexuality rather the many sexual rituals occurring.... anyway I could go on but you have your opinion based on what you know and I have mine based on what I know. It would be interesting to see if someone with your intelligence actually took the time to REALLY study the Bible taking in to account everything that should be accounted for. Only so much time in a day I suppose.....

Again... not really bc the Qu'ran is not written in English. The words in the Qu'ran clearly support ongoing violence and jihad.

So the words say what they say in the Koran, but they do not say what they say in the Bible?

That was referring to a dog religion? Did you mean Canaan?

I studied it for four years, an hour a day, five days a week.

No... I study the Qu'ran in the same way which I noted in a later post. My bad on the dog vs. Canaan actually had fixed it but you caught it first. :P Did you study the language at all? Just curious...

The language of the Bible? Yes, spent a few months on that. Knowing the difference between the original translations of Genesis 1 vs Genesis 2 (and indeed the fact that they are two fairly different stories) was the first time I realized that the Bible wasn't really a cohesive story; it was assembled out of a lot of somewhat related texts, with an awful lot of work between various ecclesiastical councils and translations to make them fit into the mold of a new religion. I was also surprised at how many Christian denominations had different lists of Biblical canon. Many take a mix-and-match approach to books they consider to be valid/applicable.

Every damn religion and sect will tell all the others the same thing, that their version is the right one and all the others are wrong and they're going to hell. Big fucking whoop.

I'll believe what I want, just get your shit out of my face and everything is cool. (Not directed at anybody specific)

Couldn't agree more. And they are all as certain as each other which is what makes them ALL nonsense.

Exactly. So if more than one is correct, then we're all going to hell no matter what we do.

The internet is full of catchy images that get passed around and called "Memes".

It is something of a reductionist misnomer as the real origin meaning and use of the word "meme" is in regard to the behavior and characteristics of self-replicating self-propagating ideas. They can be simple, (pokemon, Bart Simpson T-shirts) or complex (Roman Catholicism, Islam, Communism, Socialism, Fascism, etc).

But the thing they all have in common is that in the wild they behave like the intellectual equivalent to a computer virus.

As the upper end of human society grows more sophisticated, connected and well informed more and more people will become aware of the hazards of allowing such self-replicating ideas into their minds. These dangers are real. An out-of-control memetic infection resulted in Nazi Germany. Another resulted in the Rwandan Genocide.
These ISIS clowns are infected with the idea equivalent of Rabies. The Zombie Apocalypse is real- we're lookin' at it. The lesson I personally draw from all this is, don't buy into any "ism"s. It's kind of like internet hygiene... don't just download and run any ".exe" files you find, and don't just download and run every "ism" file people are passing around just because it is trendy. The fact that it is trendy, is often a dead giveaway in and of itself that this is probably a meme best avoided.

I really was just curious. Not making any judgement on if you did or did not. A couple months huh? That's pretty cool you took some time to try and study the language. We disagree on the rest of what you wrote but hey... you can have your opinion. Representing the Genesis account as being different stories in 1 & 2 as fact..... well... ya not fact. Your opinion. I have a lot of respect for some of the things you say Bill. I am going to PM you something so others that really do not want to be involved in this conversation but still comment are excluded. That's what they really want anyway. :P

I will follow his preaching to the letter when it is proven that he wrote down what he preached.
