Christians and Ebola

Yeah, and it should be noted that there has been a lot of 'stuff' in the works (early screening tests, vaccines, antivirals) that have had a very low priority since for a long time Ebola was "their" problem. Now it's "our" problem, and that will lead to us giving such solutions a much, much higher priority. Which, in the long run, will be a good thing; stopping this disease in its tracks benefits both the US and the world.

Do you think if Obama declared war on Ebola he could win the Nobel prize in medicine too?

Maybe the Nobel peace medicin award. Rastafarians vote on that one.

That said . . . it's a huge crisis in Africa.

Is it though?

Yes. We have previously been lulled into a concept that Ebola, while amazingly deadly, is also very self limiting since it kills the victim before it can spread too far. That kept it contained within small villages when it broke out there. Entire villages died, but that's where it stopped.

We had gotten to a place of complacency with that thinking.

Now that it has spread farther, it CAN spread farther still.

IMHO thats exactly what the planet needs. Something to knock the population back a few billion people.

Yes, I understand thats a harsh thing to say, but if we keep fucking with mother earth, mother earth will fuck us right back...

The unbelieving world needs to see our trust in God amid this difficulty.

God created Ebola.....since the Christian claim is that god created everything.

well screw him...what a prick for creating a disease that kills so many people. For that matter screw him for creating any and all disease.

Do people that die from horrible diseases go to heaven to suffer in eternity? Or are they cured there......? And if they can be cured there, then why would god put them through all the suffering here before rewarding them there?

sure, because even good comes out of suffering according to the bible [/bat-shit-crazy]

Your god is one strange dude, and not actually worthy of my time, nor my respect. Much like you.

Don't forget the 7 plagues and the child murders. Why would a god murder innocent children? Where's the holiness in that?:S

God does not deliver us from.... He delivers us through....

that's one interpretation, but here's another:

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

And I still say he is a prick for creating that stuff....even if his mission is to deliver us 'through it'. Sounds like a drill sergeant.....treating us like string puppets...pretty sociopathic

Father God, the evil one has visited upon my family and my community. I pray for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit to show me the path to deliverance. This I ask in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

That, plus some good scientifically based medicine and scientifically based public heath systems, is why our life expectancy is now double what it was 150 years ago.

Since god created smallpox and wanted us to suffer, was it a sin for science to eradicate it?

Don't forget stoning people who ate shellfish or mixed fibers in their fabrics.

And then there are the instructions on how to sell your daughters into slavery.

Nice guy, this god.

Would the dots be:

*Big pharma
*Create crisis
*Single payor health system
*BHO's Liberal Agenda to transform America

Wow. This thread started out as crazy as I thought possible . . . then it got crazier.

Unfortunately no. The right wing here has realized that fearbola is a PR goldmine.

Hey, steady on Bill. All Ron wants is to remind people not to panic.

If suggesting that the US ebola outbreak* is an Obama plot to sell socialised medical care that could be hijacked by Islamic terrorists to devastating effect is what it takes to spread a little calm around here then that's just what he's going to have to suggest!

* Not an outbreak.

Believe it or not I always enjoy your well thought out caustic responses. They are useful in identifying any dead wood I have in my faith. No matter who's opinion on reality is correct the world is one messed up screwy place.
The Bible provides an explanation for that. Aside from some confusing things, the Bible has many more beneficial spiritual insights about life. You obviously know a lot about what is written in the Book. Maybe someday you can set aside your anger and re-examine the amazing Truths it contains. - Peace -

It is easy to understand a source that is ALWAYS truthful or ALWAYS lies.

The problem is when a source does some of each and you don't know which is which. The bible is such a source.

what Kallend said above.... Science is 'always right'....once it has been tested and becomes established. (i.e. 2+2=4. DNA molecules exist and can be mapped) And when they find the occasional time that it is wrong, or new information arises, they actually correct it, re-examine it, re-issue it and continue on with the 'right stuff'. (i.e. the world was flat, but is no longer flat)

The first persons figured out calculus, Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz, and while not complete, remains today the factual basis for thousands of things we do every day, just like algebra, and DNA molecular biology. We build on it, continuously with new real evidence that supports the basis of knowledge that we know today. And we will know far more in 100 years than we know today. Your smartphone would not exist if it were not for these things.

You ask me to 're-examine the Bible? I did. It is still bullshit. taking another look at it comes to that same conclusion again and again. Its like saying "I believe in algebra but I am going to ignore that nasty calculus stuff."

The bible in no way contributed to the development of your smartphone.

Back to my original point. the omnipotent, omniscient, all-empowering god who created everything, also created the evil I guess, and the disease and the scourge on the earth and the destruction of humanity and the cancer and the earth that allows natural disasters that kill hundreds of thousands of people in a tsunami.

He is far from perfect. If reading your book offers you comfort amongst all this - well maybe I get that in some way, but I will be fucked if I am going to use that book to run the world or government or try and develop a social system based on it.
