Patriot Guard riders

Thanks, eh.

Private Gordon escorted home to Canada

“That is diametrically opposed to my opinion of the American people. They have been incredibly kind, generous. We’ve had escorts by the Patriot Guards, state troopers and city policemen every step of the way from Wisconsin through to the border today.”

Note that the quote was said in comparison to dealing with the U.S. government bureaucracy. It could be misconstrued when taken out of context like that. Most Americans have the same low opinion of U.S. government bureaucracy. And that bureaucracy does not represent Americans in general.

My apology if I presented it poorly. I think that he was expressing sincere gratitude to the support they received from the American public.

Jesus knows what you really meant by that, Ron. Would he approve?

Yes, because He does and you don't.

Cool, then let me extend the same invitation. Except I, for reasons stated on this forum before, am not a PGR rider although I have ridden in support on some of the same rides. So, open invitation to show up at ANY of the motorcycle rides or parties that I attend to express your position. I'll calmly sip my soda and see what happens.

Not referring to anyone in particular, but my general attitude toward people who imply a wish (read: implied threat) of violence against those who might dare express locally-unpopular views in the presence of "tough guys" is that said people are cowardly scum, they're an embarrassment to Americans who respect the Constitution, and they can go fuck themselves.

Gee, I guess that, too, sounds like an invitation.

Keep in mind the Patriot Guard Riders was formed to buffer the Westboro Baptist Church protesters and provide a respectful defense for grieving families. Not one WBC protester has ever been physically harmed by a PGR member. PGR is patriotic and respectful not confrontational. Most folks in ceremonial attendance come away with a deep sense of American patriotism.

And that's fine, Ron; I have no rebuttal to that.
My point still stands. I resent hearing/reading, over and over again in my lifetime, the suggestion that anyone who expresses a liberal or critical-of-America opinion in the presence of blue-collar conservative tough guys, military veterans, etc. etc. should expect to get his ass kicked. I also resent when that tactic is used to express very thinly-veiled threats of violence (with plausible deniability, of course) against people in this Forum. In my opinion, it's already been done twice in this thread.

What I'm saying is choose your audience carefully. Behind a keyboard is safe. Other places not so much, so I wonder how firmly these beliefs are held. Note that I didn't imply anything except I'd be interested in seeing how things went down. And I explicitly indicated that I wouldn't participate.

Sorry, I missed your reply. There was no thinly veiled...it was a statement of fact. Mouthy in the wrong place will get you hurt, badly. It's advice best heeded. Would have saved me a few stitches and a bunch of ice packs if I had listened to the guys that told me.

why put quotes around tough guys? i would say that someone who is willing and able to kick your ass for offending their principles is tougher than you.

i firmly believe the Hells Angels are bad people. ive walked by their club and would never state that to them. they are tougher than me and could kick my ass, i suspect. i believe that makes them tough guys, certainly tougher than me. no snarky quotes needed.

also, i dont think people are actually wishing violence on you. i think they are calling you a wimp for stating things you know would get your ass kicked in an environment where your safe from said ass kicking. not the most mature behavior but i dont see it as cowardly. they are basically calling you a sissy, not actually hoping the Hells Angels give you a beat down.

So what's the point of it, then?

Are you a wimp if you think drug dealers are scum, but won't say that aloud if you were in a holding cell full of drug dealers? No. That just suggests an IQ over 90.

No, statements like this are about intimidation.

i just dont see it that way. i think it would be about intimidation if they said they would tell one party. for example, "weekender, say that again and ill tell the Hells Angels." meant to intimidate.

on the other hand, if you just say, "hey weekender, i bet you wouldnt tell the Hells Angels that." that is basically calling me a wimp for saying derogatory things about someone i would not have the guts to say to their face.

by the way, i think your a wimp because real men dive shipwrecks in the North Atlantic.

OK, well I hate ambiguity so here is a statement. If you, or someone else, attending one of the events referenced and is standing around wondering if you should by the support shirt because it matches your favorite pair of shorts or something and says. "I just can't support the (PGR/ military veterans/ or such) because I don't believe in ". My response will be. "Yep, you're a dumbass" and I walk away. End of story. If you choose to use the purposefully inflammatory phrasing and tone skinnay selected, you can expect me to become inflamed and do my dead level best to hospitalize you.
I wouldn't expect that to ever happen. I don't think these opinions would be held that firmly when something is actually on the line.

Amen to that. I refer you to my post #13 this thread. It was a challenge to see how mature men behave.

Violence? Threatened violence? Holy Inference Batman, there's inferred threatened violence being spoken here. Quick call the Commissioner and Chief O'Hara!

Do you think any of these protesting dirtbags are EVEN worth a New York Minute in the Crowbar Hotel after getting busted for assault. Do you think you're worth some veteran doing time if you were to show up and voice your opinion at any one of these sad events. Puhhleaze, don't flatter yourself.

Us Vets know there are many ways, all legal to make life a living hell for these scumbags without firing a shot or swinging a fist, a baseball bat etc etc. We learned it during our service time.

I don't know about you but Vets like freedom. There's not a hell of a lot of freedom inside a jail cell.

I'll send some PM's to other Vets around here not to write in "Vet Speak." so we're not misunderstood next time.

Violence...what violence...I don't see no stinking violence around here.
