How can anyone say "God doesn't exist" ?

You have perfectly described a God of the Gaps!!!

Purely an accident I guess. Because I personally believe God created even the stuff we think we can and/or can explain. Not just the gaps.
Besides, I have never explained anything perfectly in my life.

>Don't polarize this argument.

I think you're the one polarizing the argument! In fact I am positive.

stop arguing you guys - instead ((insert clever word play on Grand Unification and/or Ionic bonding or the like here))

I assume you have a "worldview". If so you have established it on the belief that some things are true and need to be included while other things are false and need to be rejected. I am sure we share many common values along with some divergent ones in the reality we have constructed for ourselves.

What does that have to do with faith?

I am sure you have a high standard in what you consider fact and fiction. But in order to take a "fact" and make it part of your consciousness you must believe it is true. That requires faith. The "fact" may actually be false, but to you it is real.

And therefore believing god exists is no different from believing a cow is made of beef.

Yeah, we get it. Very convincing.:S

But I don't think even 40 million years is enough for random straight
>lines to become more than just that.

It's not. But if you had a physical process that went through all those lines and threw out the ugly ones every night, after 40 million years you'd have some incredibly beautiful, intricate drawings.

And process is the right word here too. It doesn't take any being to do the work. The connections are made all by themselves. An electrical charge brings two atoms together and they connect all by themselves (sort of like magnets) when the conditions are right and break apart when conditions change. It goes on for millions and millions of years.

Very simplistic view that appears to work fine if all you consider is the general theory of relativity & macro physics. It is totally inadequate when you throw in quantum mechanics.

"The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection is our best explanation for the fact of evolution."
Yep, but that doesn't prove that we all came out of nothing because stuff sat around for millions of years. All it proves is that established species improved due to natural selection which I totally agree with.

It's also totally inadequate when you throw in parachute design guidelines. Fortunately, parachute design guidelines (and quantum mechanics) are not integral to the theory of evolution.

Right. Abiogenesis is separate from evolution; evolution does not become a factor until pre-life has the ability to pass on characteristics to its offspring.

the other feeds your soul and gives you eternal life.

Right, and you'll get to be a fairy princess and marry the Prince Charming you always dreamed of and everyone will live happily ever after.

Eternal life is a nice idea, but it doesn't become true because you want it to be.

...remarkably similar to magnets, actually. ;)

Only sort of though because magnets aren't sharing electrons between them for it to work.

It's an analogy, but not perfect.

Forgive me, but it's not my field.

The guy doesn't understand chemistry. Let's not blow his mind with theoretical physics.

ALL that is needed to understand the creation of life on Earth (as opposed to God or Intelligent Design) is basic high school chemistry.

If you're going to dilute the meaning of faith that much, then sure, we all have faith. That level of faith ("I have faith that the sky did not turn green when I went inside") is not what any of us are talking about.

What qualifications do you have to offer any opinion whatever on quantum mechanics? Do you have a PhD in physics?

Probably the same as a math or physics PhD to opine on politics or meteorology.....I suspect his position has a huge following anyway that has published and peer-reviewed their position. Seems that's all it takes nowadays to push agendas and take your money

I still believe in Santa Clause, and he is real.

Only reason why I haven't got any gifts in last 20 years was because our house doesn't have any chimny for the Santa to climb thru.

And all the raindeer has been retired and Santa replaced them all with 7 unicorns that can travel at upwards of 25000 mph. So 7x25000=175,000 mph. That's how Santa can deliver so much gift in one night, with 7 unicorn powered sled.

That begs the question, do you have a ThD in theology?
