Probably a poor choice on starting points, but it looks like a slam-dunk case. Feds like those.

Mixed feelings on the whole 'hate crime' thing. Yes, it is wrong. But should it be an enhanced sentence issue? Lots of things are wrong. And in the end, why someone harmed you does't make the harm greater or lesser. If this caucasian did the same thing to another caucasian, would the victim be comforted to know it wasn't a hate crime?

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

So the lives and health of minorities are worth more than non minorities?

There was a story years back where a white girl and and black girl were raped (two different incidents)
Both rapists were caught
The white girl was raped by a black man
The black girl was raped by a white man
Both in the same city within two weeks of each other
The black rapist got probation
The white rapist got multiple years in prison
Both had no priors
The father of the white girl aksed the court why the well being of his girl was worth less than that of the black girl
How would you answer this?

it's a reflection of the current justice system. pile on the charges and get a better plea deal. Hate crimes carry some stiff penalties, so facing that, the perp will likely plead to whatever gets the less amount of jail-time risk. I doubt the feds want to see a hate crime case go to trial, but I bet they are willing to use it as leverage, as are many prosecutors at all levels will all sorts of charges these days.

We could have trials and focus on the real crimes more if we got rid of the drug wars altogether, but since the system pays itself on arrests and convictions, I doubt that will ever happen anytime soon

The history of criminal justice in our nation generally has the black men getting greater sentences for the same crimes - the difference between the PD and expensive lawyers like Johney C.

I would consider this a series of hate crimes
And, if I were the judge, I can tell you these cops would most likely NOT have enjoyed the sentece I would put upon them
