Another stupid school board

Recommended Posts

"Superintendent John Reinhart told The Express-Times of Easton he supports the board's decision.

"The Third Circuit Court has compromised administrators' abilities to intervene in what is and what is not appropriate in school," he said."

So, this genius is trying to say that law is keeping them from what is and is not appropriate???
:S

I'd be curious to see what the school board has spent on this.

I was just about to post that.
So apparently, with all other problems solved, the school has cash left over for idiocy like this.:S

If there is one thing I've learned in my life it's there always appears to be room in the budget for the idiocy of those in charge.

***Where are the "I heart penises" bracelets?

From a male-specific cancer standpoint, 'I heart prostates' is a better statistical correlation.

'I heart penises' is more on a par with 'I heart vaginas."

and how do you feel about testicles?

I feel very protective, at least about mine.

From the standpoint of the breast cancer awareness industry, it was pointed out by one pundit or another that women-specific cancer gets MUCH more attention than does men-specific cancer. The statistic put forth by various feminists that well less than half of cancer research goes to women-specific cancer overlooks the fact that almost all the remainder goes to cancer that is gender neutral (lung, skin, brain, bone and what have you).

One thing that concerns me is that, in addition to the fact that oncology is the last bastion of medieval medicine, it, and fundraising on its behalf, have become massive industries.

Think about it - if someone actually came up with a cure for cancer ("You have stage 4 leukemia. Take one of these pills once a day for five days, and come back in six months for a checkup"), it would shut down a multi-billion dollar industry. Sloan-Kettering and M.D. Anderson would be out of business.

Having lost friends to various forms of cancer, including breast, I do like the idea of improved treatment options. However, my tenure with companies developing medications to address the issue has only served to reinforce my inherent cynicism.

Race for the cure, anyone?

I wonder if a school dress code could have prevented this from the beginning.

I wore a uniform 1st grade through 12th....absolutely loved it The libs would call it Hilter Youth uniforms, today.

Here is an example of a stupid school board (from several days ago):

Calgary school axes honour roll

saying the reason is because it "hurts the self-esteem and pride of students who don’t make it".
The Edu'crats strike again. :S

That's the kind of crap Hillary Clinton was trying to pull in Arkansas when B.Clinton was Governor. She didn't like grades being given in school. It was "unfair" to others who couldn't or wouldn't make good grades. Good grades caused "hurt feelings"?

When I was in elementary school they gathered about 20 of us from across the district and put us in our own 5th and 6th grade class, calling it the Special Opportunities Program or SOP. We were given a much more challenging curriculum. It was great, I enjoyed it a lot.

Other kids in the school called us SOP students "Stupid On Purpose." It took me a while to appreciate the life lesson there.

My school did that too, although we didn't have a catchy name, it was just called the accelerated class. They pulled the top 4/5 graders and then we continued the next year for a 5/6 grade class. We had the same teacher for the two years. It was an excellent program.

Now it seems the goal of the educational system is to achieve mediocrity. My daughter is in 4th grade and they refuse to give her anything remotely challenging to work on despite the fact that her test scores are way above grade level. I'm now supplementing her education at home or she wouldn't be learning anything.

There is a lot of emphasis on "closing the achievement gap." I guess one way to do that is to bring down the smart kids. I personally don't think striving for mediocrity is in the best interest of the kids or the country as a whole.

The British system was like that. I started calculus at age 14, and calculus based physics and chemistry the following year.
