Personal Armed Drones and the 2nd Amendment

Recommended Posts

In light of the bogus video, this thread is pretty much dead anyway.

Let JK get his last word and the mods should lock the thread.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

I love your egotism....so easily led around and entertaining to watch...and laugh at.

Did a teacher give you a bad grade at some point in your life? Get over it.

Since the OP turned out to be pure CGI, I attach a picture of my drone, which is real.

:)

How loud is it in use? Can you see the camera's view in real time?

It's very quiet. Right now there'a a 4 second delay with camera view. For another $500 I can get real-time view.

Why the delay? Is it a bandwidth issue, or something less obvious?

Just the behavior of the GoPro WiFi link (cheap bastard that I am, I use that instead of a proper FPV link.)

Thats cool. You build from scratch? or is it a kit?

What are you using for "ground station"?

ETA:
Nice setup. I was helping out with installing an old pan titl zoom pelco. Hashing out control was easy, but them dealing with the weight was , judging by the increase in profanity and flung hardware, not a lot of fun. :)
That project really needs two controllers though: one pilot and one camera operator. The really cool ideas thrown around were shrinking linear sensors and adding laser range finders for 3D mapping. Sonar was thrown around in the bull session, but none of them know anything about it.

What's that thing sticking up with a wire coming out?

GPS antenna and magnetic compass. Raised up so the magnetic fields from the motors and power wires don't affect the compass. It also has a barometric altimeter, 3 axis accelerometer and 3-axis "gyro".

What's you do, break a student's iPhone and pirate the parts? :P

:)
No, just spent money.

I have a good job, widower, house is paid for, car is paid for, plane is paid for, kids all grown up, pension in good shape. What's a guy to do? (I suppose I could buy a yacht).

Thats very cool - wish I had the expertise to build one. Might get a kit though.
You using a raspberry pi to control it?

And.... damn you. I have now spent all evening researching how to build one.

How much wind can you fly in and how many minutes of flight?

Up to approx 15kt of wind. On a 4000mA.h battery I can get around 12 minutes with the camera on board. More without the camera (because it's lighter).

I use a conventional 2.4GHz R/C system. Range is well over a mile. (Of course, it's just a speck at that distance)

That's a 5C discharge rate. What lithium chemistry are your cells? Also, what is the voltage of the battery? It's not a single cell, is it?

Four mechanical engineering students who share my communal machine shop were building a heavy-lift (50 pound payload, 112 pound vehicle) twin engine quadracopter with an estimated one hour loiter time for their senior project.

_That_ is a drone.

It's a 3 cell (3S) hobby grade LiPO pack.
