I've actually followed HP quite often and I think it can unanimously be said that her performance was pretty disastrous.

HP was about to close their most profitable division (PCs and Laptops) and turn it into a pretty piss-poor software company.

They went on to purchase software companies at a hefty premiums and are going now suing accounting company KPMG because they "overpaid a software company by 85%".

HP, last year, was a joke in the business world.
Its as if Microsoft stop selling Windows product and focused on selling their Zune MP3 products.

Oh and HP also bought Palm at 1.2 billion $ for its softwares which aren't being utilized at all.

The Palm division had a valuation of approximately 22 million $ back in November.

Stick with physics and teaching children. Leave the business world to the adults. Business is way more complicated when you have factions within a BOD that have varying loyalties. In addition, a CEO has do deal with the talent drain brought on by previous CEO's going back to 2009.

Whitman has started to get HP back on track. They are improving their computer division, have moved into tablets and will be expanding their presence in corporate cloud computing. Expecting massive changes overnight, when it took years to get to the point HPwas at before Whitman is like blaming GWB for all our financial woes. Why don't you give Whitman the same degree of patience you give Obama? You don't really need to answer that question, we know the answer.

There is such a thing where you can REVERSE a decision. All of this is well documented and can easily be found in any noteworthy newspaper (even the WSJ).

Look at their meetings in 2011.
What was a major topic of conversation during 2011? Should Palm divison be sold and how to utilize Palm's software.

What was her decision? let's keep the Palm and try to find a way to use it.

Who influenced HP the most in keeping Palm? Whitman. This is all well documented.


It failed catastrophically and Palm's division valuation went down under her leadership.

Its the same thing with the computer division. She was all for selling off the computer division until the media backlash. You have to look at the details more often instead of media headliners/titles.


The key thing to look at are the F/S notes.

You have to look WHO influenced these decisions.

This is where you get things terribly wrong.
Its about HOW the decisions were made and WHO helped make these final decisions. who influenced...

I did look at HP closely and Whitman was very much part of these decisions.


Just because she did her own version of a "big bath" doesn't take away that she too was at fault for HP's many catastrophic decisions.

Let's say tomorrow the Taliban overruns the U.S bases and defeats the Americans. Complete defeat for the U.S

Would the President be at fault? Yes obviously.
and would the Generals in command of U.S forces in Afghanistan also be at fault too? Of course.


Its as if you're telling me that the Generals weren't at fault at all because they weren't the President.
The people who advised and influenced the bad decisions should also take their share of responsibility.

Funny that you don't have the same standard for Left-Wingers in the government. Of course, government and coporations do not operate the same way. Something an undergraduate college student would/should know.
