Gun sales soar after Obama's re-election

Recommended Posts

News: "Gun sales in America are soaring in the wake of President Barack Obama's re-election with weapons retailers reporting AK-47s flying off shelves "like hotcakes." Owners of guns have been stocking up because they are concerned about a potential tightening of regulations on assault weapons in the president's second term. In October the number of background checks on people applying to buy guns, an indicator of future sales, increased by 18.4 per cent..."

The government ought to put a stop to this stockpiling. There are already too many guns in circulation. All these right wing gun nuts might be planning some kind of government overthrow, and we ought to quit allowing them to have these guns with which to perpetrate violence, and to buy up assault weapons before they're banned. It would be easier to quit selling them now, then to confiscate them later.

Eh, let em buy guns if they want. It helps out US industry - and having lots of guns might make some people out there feel better. (And the health of the gun industry is a fun fact to use against the Obama-haters.)

That'd be one way to get Republicans back in office like after Bill Clinton insisted Congress include a sport utility gun ban in HR3355.

I'm not a woman and can afford to fly those in my family to other states and countries if abortion is banned, save at least $17,000 a year towards my retirement so I won't be collecting Social Security after it becomes means tested, our kids have undergraduate degrees and won't be indoctrinated by school prayer, and therefore don't consider such issues first when voting.

OTOH, I like my guns and will vote for almost any Republican in a winnable race who isn't anti-gun over his or her Democrat opponent that is. Other people have done the same and will do so again.

There aren't enough guns.

All these firearms enthusiasts understand arithmetic and are stocking up on guns now because we like them and have good reason to believe that the government will pass laws banning new production for civilian sales which can increase prices up to 20X (FOPA 1986 means that M16s can run $16,000 not $800) although 2X on guns and 5X on regular capacity magazines is more likely. It'll cost us much less to buy now.

That reminds me - I have some online shopping to do.

Maybe the increased gun sales will have a trickle down effect on the economy like the $40B of mortgage backed securities bought by the fed each month.

Do a little math and see if you can come back with comparable numbers on the manpower it would take to confiscate all the weapons US civilians own.

Well, Comrade Carp, perhaps you would be happier living in a country where people think more along your lines. Such as N. Korea or Cuba. After seeing many of your posts, I haven't decided whether you are a troll, a little 'cocktail socialist', or just someone that spent too many of your formative years within the range of the lethal rays of the brainwashing device known as television. I am going to hazard a guess and think that you are a product of the last thirty years of public education, which means you didn't get a real education. It might benefit you to go back and read what the founding fathers intent was as far as the second amendment. Clue: it had nothing to do with hunting. I have been around, and worked the gun shows since the seventies, and there is not a vast, right wing conspiracy among all of the American gun owners to overthrow the government. You sound like the nuts that think everything Obama does is a conspiracy. Just the opposite side of the coin. And by the way, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, and all the others like them would have loved your train of thought. As the late Aaron Zelman would have put it, "you have a gas chamber mentality."

Trolling posts with this type of random antagonism and this shallow a level of content usually only indicates a poster barely through about the 7th grade unless they've been parentally neglected, then possibly even as old as 18 or so. So I doubt your estimate is even close. Though maturity in general has slipped a lot, I could suspect a bored kid in community college as worse case.

You are probably correct, and at this very moment he is probably sitting on the playground with his phone, giggling that he got a response from an adult. My fault.

I tried to warn you guys.

Yeah, this guy is almost too off-the-wall to be real. I hope he's the one they send to confiscate my guns.

For the record, the American people have a RESPONSIBILITY to keep the government in check when it oversteps its boundaries or acts against the best interest of the people. The government is supposed to fear its citizens, and the only way they can fear us is if we have the power to make them afraid. The government is doing all it can to take away our power to protect our own best interests. I want guns not so I can harm others or "take down" the government, I want guns to protect my rights and the rights of others- unless I have a reason to use my firearms in such a manner, they are cool little gadgets to collect and sometimes shoot for enjoyment.

Maybe we should address a much more urgent and deadly topic, like obesity. Mandatory physical evaluation for every citizen, and food rationed out only according to true physiological needs. This way, nobody would be obese, BILLIONS of dollars would be saved in health care costs and money spent on superfluous food items, and at the same time the government could feed us just enough to survive but not enough that anybody would have the energy or strength to fight back. Couple that with a ban on all firearms, and it would be laughably easy to herd us into the gas chambers.

A relative owns a gun shop and is experiencing the same...applies to the ARs too.

Unbelievable that some people think like that. It's pitiful. I guess it stems from fear.

Isn't fear what makes gun-nuts buy guns? Fear of the government? Fear of criminals? Fear of zombies? Fear of suicide deer bombers?

There's enough guns in America for every man, woman and child to have one. How many more do you need?

We mostly buy guns because we like to shoot them and enjoy them the same way we like do cars, motorcycles, watches, power tools, and other things stereotypically testosterone endowed people like. We buy sooner when people elect politicians who are likely to increase prices and/or limit our selection.

Over a dozen times that.

.22 rifle
.223 sport utility rifle
.308 sport utility rifle
.22 pistol
1911. It's a classic.
9mm pistol for target use (affordable to shoot as far as centerfire pistols go)
high capacity .40 pistol with scoring advantages in some practical pistol competitions
concealable center fire pistol for self defense
shotgun for trap (preferably an over-under)
shotgun for 3-gun
single action revolver for cowboy
lever action in the same pistol caliber
rifle caliber lever action

plus whatever else you need for your chosen game animals, terrain, and whether you're hunting with a pistol or long gun. Some places also have separate muzzle loading seasons which call for their own tools.

Venison is nice, but elk and antelope are tastier. Yum!

I need a different gun for zombies than I do for deer bombers.

Any recommendation on Zombie guns. I have the shot gun for up close zombies, 308 snipper for long distant phone calls. But maybe I need something a little more versital. With WWZ coming one needs to prepare.

I have never bought a firearm out of fear. It's a fun hobby just like you enjoy skydiving and some folks enjoy fishing or motorcycles or whatever. They are just cool little mechanical gadgets that bring joy to the user. You don't fuss about people practicing archery, but a firearms enthusiast is somehow different?

Fear? I don't by guns because I fear the government- I buy guns because the government should fear its people. It fears me, but I have a feeling it likes kids like you who willingly drop their pants every time Uncle Sam wants some lovin'. Yes, I said kids- you gonna let somebody tell you what to do and how to think, just like mommy did? Grow the fuck up and be a man.

I own both a Bushmaster ACR and a SCAR-H. Trust me getting hit by a .308 will put anything down, including zombies.

Optics must be considered as well...those things can be expensive. Need something for low light, what are those things with a Red Dot, that might be a good add on for the AR.

To put a zombie down you have to hit him in the brain stem. A shot gun is better. Remington 1100 12 Gauge Auto. Make sure you mix your load alternating buckshot, slug.... ;)
