Ok, semi-serious here. There have been massive advances in brainwave decoding in the last few years. I wonder if there could ever be a gun lock devised that could somehow detect the user's state of mind?

Ok, clearly that's Scifi for now...and the NRA would clearly be against it even if it were somehow 100 percent foolproof...

However, what about some type of self screening made available like blood pressure checks at pharmacies where a person could go in and periodically check themselves? I'm not saying it would directly prevent anything, but maybe if there was some tool developed for self diagnosis people literally try to get a grip on themselves before it goes too far.

The NRA (and any gun owners) might take this sort of technology more seriously if every proposal ever made didn't exempt LEOs from having to rely on it.

When you are willing to trust your life to your AAD 100%, let's talk further. Relying on a battery in a single point of failure is a stupid life plan, only suitable for target shooters.

And no, the technology for predicting bad behavior doesn't exist anyway, so it's mindless speculation. If we could do this, we would screen everyone on the street and direct the ill towards treatment. The gun isn't the only way the ill can cause harm. We'd also save tens of thousands from suicide.

Certainly they do. Every few month we hear about somebody who has forgotten he was carrying and gets stopped by the TSA at an airport. An AIRPORT. So, yes, people do carry accidentally.

Sure one or two may still do it using an ideology that some feel is the be all and end all, the Second Amendment.

But many of us remember from the forms we filled out for our background checks, and the courses we took, and on the card we carry that reminds us of the Private Businesses rights too.

As a CCW holder, I don't know what I would have done. Movie room full of chaos, some asshole at the front of the theater popping shots, tear gas. The last thing we need is a 2nd person shooting. What if I hit someone else with a bullet? What if I was thought to be on the offensive?

Maybe if I was in the front row with an option, open, and clear shot I'd consider it.

Stricter gun laws will never(in my opinion)solve these kind of occurences, because somebody with the intent to harm will go down any avenue to obtain firearms. Just think about how criminals that can't leagaly own a gun still have them!

As for the ccw holders....who knows how one will react in that situation? I am a gun owner and i have no clue how i would react...I like to think I could protect myself.

And yes a .45 slug to a BP vest would stun the crap out of the one taking the hit. But remember adrenaline is a powerful thing, he may not feel a thing.

Setting aside the gun free zone venue.

One of the things all Fire Arms owners should know, and any who has ever taken any class has been told this, is KNOW what you aiming at, AND, what id behind your target.

For my CCW, the Instructor reinforced my already held belief that my weapon is for DEFENSE, and that some times retreating to a safer area is a better option in that defense.

The net is on fire with tough guys saying they would have done this or that. Most have no true training or experience in this type of situation, I know I never trained to have a gun fight in a crowded theater in my 21 Years in the Army or my years in PS and VIPS.

Honestly, I think the discussion should be on how we can take reasonable steps in trying to prevent mentally unstable people from being able to do something like this again, with out removing rights, we have at birth and reaffirmed with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, for law abiding and stable Citizens.
