Nevertheless, you won't have to wait too long....it IS going to take place.....just a few extra months to enjoy yourselves while you can.....maybe a few extra jumps !

Haven't been keeping up on end-of-whatever conspiracies/prophesies lately. What is the new timeline? 2006, 2007, and 2009 have come and gone; and a few extra months is rather vague.

Care to put another stake in the ground, or you gonna play it safe like most of the other conspiracy theorists and stop setting dates?

That's fine - and you're in good company. Ever since our country began people have lamented the collapse of society, the loss of decency, the takeover of our country by immigrants, the moral depravity of the younger generation etc etc. But we always seem to do OK so I'm not too worried.

Yes, social mores are always in flux. Usually doesn't bother people much - until the road gets bumpy. Then those social mores (which are always in play and constantly undergoing incremental change at the least) become the boogeyman.

Kind of a neat dynamic in a way because each generation gets to feel needed and important (for example - every generation thinks they invented the sexual revolution).

The downside is that there is always guaranteed to be those that insist yesterday's mores were the "right" ones.

There are no right or wrong mores, just the current ones.

The biggest problem with Paul is that he doesn't believe in compromise. In a country with 300 million people, and 635 congresscritters, it's not like he's going to get anything done without it.

I personally think that would be a good thing.

failure to compromise means the status quo, which right now means a trillion dollar annual deficit. That's not a good outcome for us all.

And compromise is what passed those bills that gave us the trillion dollar deficit. You somehow think that the two parties are going to work together to slash entitlement spending and raise taxes?

Getting back to the OP.

It seems to me that the Republicans are now in the same position with Mitt Romney that the Democrats were in with John Kerry in 2004.

They've got an uninspiring candidate whose best quality is that he's not Obama, just as Kerry's best quality (for the Dems) was that he's not bush.

The "Etch a Sketch" comment from HIS OWN MOUTHPIECE will haunt him for the rest of the campaign. It will be the defining moment in his loss.

I dunno, stocks blew up nearly 141% practically overnight. This might be an administration that could simply speak economic growth into existence!:P

the compromise we had now is where the two agree to keep their programs and their tax cuts and not think about the deficit. That's not an actual compromise, that's a mutual sticking of heads in the ground.

If our parties are going to serve their country as patriots they are going to have to agree to raise taxes, dramatically decrease the size of the military and our use of it, and figure out how to survive the boomers retirement.

In the current political climate I just don't see that happening. Both parties seem much more intent on blaming than on fixing.

no, I see no sign of it either. But an uncompromising Ron Paul takes that further...and that's not "a good thing" as the poster wrote.

On the other hand, Paul would (or try) curtail our military interventions, saving money right off the bat. But Congress would have to agree to actually downscale the size.

MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN

or, some such.

Yet John Kerry was everybody's hero on that side of the aisle.

I'm still rooting for putting a dead squirrel in the White House. Better than who we current have, better than the other options, too.

1 - immediate boost in confidence resulting in improved economy

2 - no more pointless speeches that mean nothing

3 - spending will drop immediately

4 - immediate strengthening in our foreign reputation and effectiveness

what more can we ask for?

Dead squirrel will stink after a while. A tank of guppies, OTOH, is pretty much self supporting, and can be fed for $10/year

Presidents stink right away - Dead Squirrel is an improvement.

If the tank of guppies start to swim left or right, the freaks will try to make a partisan push as a result. Hell, people would bid for the job of feeding the guppies and then always sprinkle food to one side of the tank. Laws will be proposed to make feeding the guppies "fair" - the outcry will be horrendous.

For that one, you need quite a few dead squirrels in Congress.

my apologies, I phrased that too simply

The rate of spending increase will decrease due to the sudden cessation of vigorous executive encouragement to increase it

Dead Squirrel can put a lot of things into perspective
