Yeah The Rich Have It All....NO really they actually have it all and they have taxes lower than those making minimum wage!
I'm not envious of his success I'm envious he get's taxed so low and if I were to walk away from my condo and have no deductibles my state and federal taxes would shoot up to 35%

But I have a choice, I can sit here and get pissed and give myself an ulcer but what would that accomplish? Not like the world is ever going to change?

So enjoy boys and girls! Enjoy! And good luck defending this one! It's kind of like occupying wallstreet so that they could be less regulated and make more money off of your 401k or protesting for war....all things the GOP actually has done!

How's this for a DEFENDING this. Go make the same amount of money and you can have the same tax rate.

Naaaaa, don't bother. Anyone that got to that level stoled the money somehow. If they didn't steal it, someone gave it to them.

I paid around that last year. Mortgage interest and medical deductions.

It bugs when people say someone "exploited a tax loophole" or something like that, like people have been saying about Gingrich. I don't like the guy, but do people honestly expect someone to pay MORE taxes than the tax code requires? It's not a loophole, it's the LAW. If you don't like it, vote for people who will change it, but getting pissy at people who follow the law is ridiculous.

I live in NJ and between education and home I get down to about 25% on a good day.
No way no how could I get down to 15%.
I was at that when I was a summer intern living at my parents house in upstate NY making $1k a month!

It would be nice to be at 15%. Think of all that money the middle class could use to bring the economy back to life!

But no no no it's ok....we'll keep giving it to guys who use it to invest in SEA!
Google Foxcon and see how much venture $$ goes into that little sweat shop and what their suicide rates are.

Look I'm not hating him for being rich, I'm hating him for he has the means and the way to protect more of his assets than the rest of us do.
How about a nice "Square Deal"?

Yeah, what a scumbag. He only paid $6.2 million in taxes. How much did you pay?:S

25% of my income.
It's not about $$ rather it's about %%%
Don't ever think that you can spin shit like that on me! DO I LOOK LIKE one of those spinless gutless POS Jellocrats?

Mitt Romney earned $21.7 million in 2010 and paid nearly $3 million in taxes at a rate of slightly less than 14 percent, according to an early preview of the documents provided by the Romney campaign to several media outlets early Tuesday morning.

A majority of Romney's income was derived from investments rather than a yearly fixed salary, which is why the former governor paid a lesser effective tax rate than those in his income category.

So the more more you have the more money you make? So if you draw the math equation if you had infinite money you pay 0% tax? Hum....which DUMB FUCK thought that was a good idea!

Gingrich revealed his 2010 tax returns last week, which showed that the former House speaker made more than $3.1 million and paid nearly $1 million on his earnings, with an effective tax rate of 31 percent, the rate for the top one percent of earners.

I would question the business acumen of anyone who pays that high a tax rate on that much income. At the very least I would question their choice of a CPA.

The growing jealousy over successful people seriously disgusts me.
I strive to succeed on my own merits.
I don't hate others for tremendous success.
I tend to admire a large portion of them.

Income is what working people make.
Investments are what successful make.
These two are not the same and therefore are generally taxed quite different.

I am....and asking "WHO THE FUCK WROTE THOSE RULES!"

Look I'm sorry boys and girls of the GOP but really this is your boy wonder? A guy who has no connection to the average middle class fuck?

HA!

Look don't get me wrong I'm not a huge fan of Obama and his inability to lead anything but...wow this is the best you got!

A guy who has enough cash and influence to twists the rules of the land to not only benefit him but to give him a huge windfall!

Yeah we may be ok with open marriages and even look the other way with respect to this guy being a Mormon and having to wear "special" undergarments! But someone who uses his influence and finances to cheat....that one we may have a small issue with!

There is a big difference between the two
Newts is income from his actions

Mitts is income from investment (IE capital gains)

Dollars used to invest are what is left after the initial tax is paid

Also

Many with just income taxes can lower their rate by charitable giving

A good CPA could tell where the break even point is

Give more to charity, pay an effective lower rate

Either way, the money is gone

So you believe that people should be charged based on how much they make?

You would be OK with say a credit card that charged interest rates on what your worth was? How about Fannie May or Freddie Mac underwritten mortgage interest based on how much you make?

YES!
But let's do this right....
let's change income to say worth?
IF you are worth say $250mill....yeah pay a bit more say 30% since we can't tax you let's get our money the other way?
So that way those in the middle class can leverage low interst money to invest in markets and or start a new business?

Thoughts?
OH yeah i'm not a jellocrat!

1 - they'll just pay cash then....that'll be even worse, then you'll have to get a law passed to require them to take the loans to 'stimulate' whatever imaginary part of the economy you want favored....

comment

so you want to have higher credit card interest on those most able to make payments?

why on earth would credit card companies charge more for lower risk clients? why on earth would banks charge higher mortgage interest on clients that are able to make payments? why on earth do you want to government to meddle even more in private businesses such as banks and credit card companies?

you are making zero sense. your proposals continue to be about redistribution and government intervention - but your main complaint is about redistribution and government intervention in the first place (government decided to tax investment income at a lower rate than direct income - in essence, it was a back end subsidy of wall street)

all you are saying is that subsidies are bad - unless you personally get one. all you are saying is that penalties are bad, unless someone you don't like gets one

the solution is simple - get government out of picking winners and losers. Change the tax code to tax ALL income at the same rate, everybody pays, no subsidies for businesses or favored technologies, no penalties for businesses or out of favor industries, etc etc etc no exceptions

Change the tax code
Really and who has the power to do that?
The middle class or the guy who has so much money in influence that his tax rate is only....13.9%

Obama paid about 32% on about 5.5 million a couple years ago. Had a lot of book deal income.
Must have the same CPA as Newt.

Course Mr. Romney got his MBA from Harvard.
Maybe he took those secret society "fuck the IRS" classes?
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Yes. The Tax Code is what it is. And part of what it does is tax capital gains income at a significantly lower rate that it does on employment income.

Now, if Shah's point is that the Tax Code favors the wealthy, and aids the wealthy in getting even wealthier at a geometric rate, placing those who own own little or no assets with which to earn capital gains at an institutionalized, and probably self-perpetuating, disadvantage, that would be (albeit over-simplified) more or less correct.

The solution might be to radically change the Tax Code to bring capital gains taxation in line with employment earnings income. Don't expect a single Republican legislator to vote for such a measure. But don't expect Democrats to vote for it en masse, either. They all got to Congress with money donated by those who earn the bulk of their wealth via capital gains, and those type of donors don't want more tax on their wealth-growing assets. So, some Democrats will vote to drastically change the Tax Code, but some simply won't.

In practical effect, then, the only way to assure drastically changing the Tax Code to drastically help the middle class would be to assure that, for about the next 20 years, both houses of Congress shift to about 75% Democratic, and every President is also a Democrat. Since that won't happen, we might as well just... skydive.
